The might be a lame answer but when inputing data and you put it starting card of reign and then end card of reign and then calculate the difference it. I believe this method keeps it more in align with Pariah's method.

I'd argue that it is your version of the universe and what ever method makes the most sense for your storytelling is what you should go with. Other folks may have other opinions, but it is YOUR universe! Count timing how you find it best!
