SOUTH COAST CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING 6/5/2021
Card #5 – Municipal Amphitheater – Gadsden, AL
Welcome to South Coast Championship Wrestling! Join us now for the fast-paced competition of professional wrestling featuring the top grapplers from the nation’s largest governing body, the World Wide Wrestling Alliance. We’ll have our first defense of the South Coast Tag titles in the main event, so let’s get to the action…
Tom Prichard b Frank Dalton
Prichard’s agility was the difference maker in this opener as Dalton always seemed a half step too slow. Dr. Tom won with an Enzuigiri.
J.J. Dillon dq Pampero Firpo
The Wild Bull of the Pampas came out of the gate strong, and Dillon was clearly flustered. Once the action settled down a bit, Firpo was battering J.J. in the corner and ignored the referee who kept calling for a break. That led to the disqualification, and Dillon bailed out and hightailed it back to the locker room as fast as he could.
Flying Redheads cor Quebecers
Outstanding match that saw the Redheads get off to a furious start, only to have the Quebecers make a big comeback. Then both side traded big moves and kicked out of seemingly endless pin attempts. Both Quebecers and Bastien were busted open at various stages of the match. Finish saw Quebecer Pierre take a header over the top rope to the floor when Bastien rocked him with a flying headscissors. Although he was dragging himself up the ring apron, Pierre couldn’t beat the referee’s ten count. ****1/2 (PROMOTER NOTE: nineteen total fatigue Red 4, Lyons 3, Jacques 7, Pierre 5)
Magnificent Muraco dq Brian Blair
Former South Coast Champions tangled in a battle that went on for a while, although both seemed cautious and didn’t take a lot of chances. Finish saw the two on the floor. Muraco grabbed a chair and took a swing at Blair but missed and hit the ring post. Blair took the chair away and smashed Muraco in the back resulting in a disqualification.
Larry Hennig b Scott Casey
These two have been involved in several matches with inconclusive finishes recently. As soon as the bell rang, the two met in the middle of the ring and started throwing punches. After a really close back and forth match, a distraction by J.J. Dillon opened the door for Hennig, and he scored the pin with the Axe.
SCCW Tag-Team Championship: Bob & Brad Armstrong dq JIMMY & JOHNNY VALIANT
Crowd was into this one as soon as the participants began making their way to the ring. Armstrongs were mobbed by people cheering them on in their effort to regain the titles. The Valiants and Albano, on the other hand, were pelted with items from the crowd and several fans were ejected from the building before the match began. Brad and Luscious Johnny started and it didn’t take long for the Armstrongs to have the champs in serious trouble. They kept Johnny in their corner for several minutes and really did some damage. After a few near falls, Jimmy was able to get in the ring. He carried the load while his brother recovered, and managed to get a couple pin attempts on the fan favorites. The Armstrongs started gaining some steam, and it looked like Brad had Johnny pinned, but Handsome Jimmy came off the top onto Brad and was disqualified for his interference. The four didn’t stop, brawling out of the ring and all the way back to the locker room as the crowd continued to cheer the Armstrongs on.
Whew - disappointing finish, but what a main event! We’re heading back to Louisiana next time and our fans in Lake Charles are ready. Here’s what our great fans at the McDonald Sportatorium can look forward to:
* We’ll get to witness the debut of young Brian Armstrong! With a reputation as a brash, outspoken young man, Brian will have his first SCCW match against an, as yet, unnamed opponent.
* The Dirty Daltons will ride into Lake Charles looking to tame the athletic team of Tom Prichard & D’Lo Brown! The Daltons were disqualified the last time these teams met, so this should be an exciting rematch!
* In a rematch from the last Louisiana show in Alexandria, Steve “Doctor Death” Williams will face one half of the tag-team champs, “Luscious” Johnny Valiant! Williams, soon headed to the WWWA World Championship tournament in Brazil, will need to keep his short temper in check, as it cost him a decision the last time these two met!
* Your big main event be a huge rematch for the South Coast Title! Harley Race will defend against Ted DiBiase in a must see event! The presence of J.J. Dillon at ringside cost DiBiase the title in Dothan. Can Ted overcome the odds and dethrone Race on the next show?
All this and much more next time in Lake Charles!
