Continental Championship Wrestling I’ve been playing this fed for a couple of years now, and I’ve decided to start posting the results. Here’s a primer to bring you up to speed on the factions and feuds of the CCW. The top heel group in CCW is Inoki International. This group is made up of the top foreign born heels. The leader of the group is, as the name might reveal, Antonio Inoki. Inoki-san is rabidly anti-American, believing that the American owners of CCW are constantly conspiring against him. Since he captured the Continental Championship from former champion Don Leo Jonathan back in May of 2008, Inoki has gathered together a group to help him retain the title. The lead enforcer of Inoki International is Ivan Koloff. Joining these two is the tag team of Mad Dog Vachon and Billy Lyons. Recently, Inoki has caused some friction within the group by bringing in Sherri Martel, with whom he is romantically involved, as the group’s manager. Her American citizenship and this blatant hypocrisy by Inoki has rubbed Koloff in particular the wrong way. Inoki International is challenged by a loose alliance of American born faces. Diamond Dallas Page won a four man tournament to be declared the number one contender for Inoki’s title, but Inoki has yet to give Page his title shot. Koloff has been engaged in a violent feud with The Boogie-Woogie Man, with their brawls usually ending in disqualifications. Meanwhile, Captain Louand his Dream Team (Brutus Beefcake and Greg Valentine) have been giving Lyons and Vachon all they can handle. The secondary singles title, the Television Title, is currently held by Frank Gotch. Gotch’s main challenger is Ravishing Rick Rude, whose flamboyant style is the antithesis of Gotch’s no-nonsense mat style. Gotch is also involved, distantly, in a feud with The Missing Link and his manager Johnny Fairplay. Fairplay wants the Link to get a shot at Gotch’s title, but due to the Link’s poor win/loss record the CCW commissioner Paul Ellering refuses to grant him a title match. To try and force Gotch’s hand, Fiarplay has sent the Link on a “seek and destroy” mission, targeting Gotch’s friend the simple minded hillbilly Cousin Luke. The other members of Fairplay’s “Tribe”, The Samoan Gangster Party, and their rival tag team, The James Gang have also been pulled into this feud. The other key feuds in the singles divisions feature a war of words that has gotten physical between Cowboy Bob Orton Jr. and Steve Corino, a classic battle of speed vs. size in King Kong Bundy vs. Jimmy Snuka, battling power houses in The Iron Sheik vs. Don Muraco, a battle for brawling supremacy in The Sheik vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan, The Masked Superstar battles Ted Dibiase, and Curt Hennig trying to prove his superiority to Harley Race. The Kangaroos have dominated the tag team scene since their arrival. Currently, they are feuding with a trio who are called “Gold Rush”, which is made up of tag team specialists who’ve lost their regular partners: “Lover Boy” Dennis Condrey, “Luscious” Johnny V., and Red Basten. Gold Rush fights under the "Freebird rule", though usually Condrey and Basten tag together. Elsewhere in the tag division, the two most cunning teams in CCW do battle as The Killer Bees feud with the pairing of Larry Zbysko and Ray Stevens, known as "The Scoundrels". Meanwhile, Jim Cornette’s Heavenly Bodies have their hands full with the recently returned Road Warriors.

Monday, March 23rd. Continental Championship Wrestling returned to the home of the Fighting Sioux, the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Ralph may be a hockey arena, but the CCW action was red hot!
Ivan Koloff defeated Virgil by submission. The Russian Bear dominated Virgil from the opening bell, never relinquishing the offense. After a few minutes of brutality, Koloff put Virgil away with a bear hug. In an interesting note, Koloff was not accompanied to ringside by Inoki International’s manager, Sensational Sherri Martel. If this was because Martel was busy prepping Continental Champion Antonio Inoki for his match later in the evening, or if this is proof of reported friction between Koloff and Martel remains to be seen.
“Lover Boy” Dennis Condrey defeated Roy Heffernan by Disqualification. The referee couldn’t contain this one, as the rivalry between these two men and their respective teams keeps getting more and more intense. This match was all over the place, and filled with back and forth action. In the end, the fight spilled on to the arena floor where the Aussie hot head lost his cool and got disqualified for slamming Condrey with a chair while they brawled on the arena floor.
The Boogie Woogie Man defeated Mad Dog Vachon (with Sherrie Martel) by Disqualification. Mad Dog dominated this match, administering a vicious beat down to the Boogie Woogie Man. Vachon used his power to control the match, but despite being firmly in command, never went for the pin. Eventually, Valiant started to rally, and with his “Street People” behind him, Boogie Woogie slapped the sleeper hold on Vachon. Before the Algerian Avenger could go down for the count, his tag team partner Billy Lyons and their Inoki International cohort Ivan Koloff hit the ring. The trio of foreign villains put the boots to Boogie Woogie, with Sherri Martel directing traffic. Just when it looked like Koloff was going to use his Russian chain to put away his long time rival, The Dream Team hit the ring with steel chairs in hand to drive off Inoki International. Valentine and Beefcake helped Boogie Woogie to the back, where medics where waiting to evaluate him.
Al Costello defeated “Luscious” Johnny V. by submission. There was a lot of back story to this match, beyond just the rivalry between Gold Rush and the Kangaroos, or even old animosity from the Kangaroos forcing the Valiant Brothers tag team to disband back in November. Costello was the man who originally trained Johnny Valiant and taught him how to wrestle, and “The Man of a Thousand Holds” was intent on showing his former prize pupil that he was still the master. Despite Valiant taking an early advantage, the tag team champion used his superior technical acumen to take control of the match. Johnny V. rallied late, but the comeback was dead on arrival. In the end, Costello used his Marbolla Lock to end the match.
Steve Corino, Larry Zbysko, and Ray Stevens defeated the Killer Bees and Bob Orton Jr. by pinfall. For months now, Steve Corino has been running his mouth to run down Bob Orton Senior. Bob Orton Jr. has been trying to shut Corino’s mouth, but the wily Corino has always been two steps ahead of the enraged cowboy. This week, he had the Scoundrels to run interference. Stevens and Zbysko carried the lion’s share of the water for their team, with Corino refusing to tag in. The Killer Bees were non-factors, as Orton refused to tag out, and miss his opportunity to get his hands on Corino. Eventually, after Orton had been on the receiving end of Stevens’ Bombs Away knee drop and a face full of exposed turn buckle courtesy of Larry Z., Corino finally tagged in. One super-kick later, and Corino got his hand raised.
Jimmy Snuka defeated King Kong Bundy via pinfall. This has been a hot rivalry, but this match was a dud. Snuka used his speed and agility to gain an early advantage, and as soon as the opportunity presented itself (promoter’s note: 4th move), went to the top rope and delivered a devastating Superfly Splash. Snuka got the win, leaving Bundy to complain about a non-existent fast count.
Don Muraco defeated The Sheik (with Abdullah Farouk) via Disqualification. Abdullah Farouk’s two men, the Iron Sheik and The Sheik have been feuding with Don Muraco and Hacksaw Jim Duggan, respectively. This week, the two sheiks traded foes as The Sheik got a piece of the Rock. The Sheik was dominating Muraco early in the matchup. Eventually, as always seems to happen with the Syrian madman, the action spilled out of the ring. Durring the wild brawl which followed, referee “Blind” Abel Schwartz disqualified the Sheik.
The Iron Sheik (with Abdullah Farouk) defeated Hacksaw Jim Duggan via submission Farouk’s other, more disciplined protégée faired better in the next match. The former Television champion showed that he’s back to winning ways by besting Hacksaw easily, and forcing him to submit to his version of the Camel Clutch.
Television Champion Frank Gotch and Diamond Dallas Page defeated Rick Rude and Continental Champion Antonio Inoki (With Sherri Martel) by pinfall. It had been over a year since Continental Champion Inoki joined forces with an American, and you could see that the champion and Rude had communication problems from the get go. With Inoki-san refusing to speak English, Martel had to function as a translator for her man, hampering him and Rude’s ability to form a strategy. It quickly became clear what Inoki’s strategy for the match was: let Rude do all the work and avoid being in the ring with DDP at all costs. Despite being basically in a handicap match, Rude put on an impressive show, taking both DDP and Television champion Gotch to the limit. Rude almost got a three count on the TV champ after a Rude Awakening, but DDP made the save. Eventually, Rude ran out of gas, got sloppy, and ended up on the business end of a Diamond Cutter that came out of no where. While Page made the cover, Inoki left the ring side area before the referee had even counted three. Something tells me Inoki and Rude won’t be in the running for Tag Team of the Year.
After a wild night in Grand Forks, CCW heads south next week, all the way to Fayetteville Arkansas, and the Bud Walton Arena!
Razorback country will be rocking as our big main event will be a Tag Team title match. With Al Costello’s victory over Johnny V. this week, the Kangaroos seem to have the momentum on their side, but with Gold Rush using the Freebird rule, there’s no telling which two members they’ll be facing for the titles.
In a match that should have a real impact of the tag team rankings, the Killer Bees will take on the Scoundrels. Adding to the potentially explosive nature of this match, the Bees will have Cowboy Bob Orton Jr. at ringside and the Scoundrels will be seconded by Steve Corino.
After the wild brawl we saw tonight, The Boogie Woogie Man will join forces with the Dream Team to take on the Inoki International trio of Koloff, Vachon, and Lyons in a no DQ six-man tag team match.
The third of three big tag matches for the night will see The Heavenly Bodies in action against Virgil and Koko B. Ware.
Singles stars will also be in action including Masked Superstar, Curt Henning, The Missing Link, Ted DiBiase, Harley Race, and more!
Plus, Slamfest ’09 is just 4 weeks away, and at that big event, DDP will finally get his shot at the Continental Championship held by Antonio Inoki. Commissioner Paul Ellering will be on hand for the big contract signing in Fayetteville!

CCW in Fayetteville preview!
The CCW superstars will be bake in action tomorrow night at the Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville. Here’s a look at the card:
Kip James will face off against Samu of the Samoan Gangsta Party, with manager Johnny Fairplay. The Masked Superstar, with Sir Oliver Humperdink, battles Cousin Luke. Virgil and Koko B. Ware team up to take on Jim Cornette’s Heavenly Bodies. Ted Dibiase will go one-on-one with Curt Hennig, who’ll have Bobby Hennan in his corner. Harley Race will battle The Missing Link, managed by Johnny Fairplay. The Scoundrels (Larry Zbyszko and Ray Stevens) will face the Killer Bees in tag team action, and Steve Corino and Bob Orton Jr will be at ring side to add fuel to the fire. The semi-main event will see a no disqualification six man tag team match pitting Mad Dog Vachon, Billy Lyons, and Ivan Koloff (managed by the lovely Sherri Martel) against The Boogie-Woogie Man and the Dream Team (managed by the less lovely Captain Lou). And the big main event, The Kangaroos will defend the Tag Team Championship against Gold Rush. Just like us, The Kangaroos won’t know which two of the three members of Gold Rush (Dennis Condrey, Red Bastein, or Luscious Johnny V.) they’ll be facing until bell time. All this, plus the big contract signing for the Slamfest 09 main event between DDP and Antonio Inoki!
CCW Fever! Catch it!

The Basketball Palace of Mid-America, The Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, Arkansas was home to another exciting night of CCW action, including a big tag team title main event!
Kip James defeated Samoan Samu (With Johnny Fairplay) via pinfall. Another chapter in the feud between The James Gang and Johnny Fairplay’s Samoan Gangster Party unfolded in Fayetteville. This time, it was the powerful Samu tangling with the phenomenally athletic Kip James. The big Samoan gave Kip all he could handle, but in the end, James was able to turn the tide on Samu before putting him away with the Cobra Clutch Slam.
Masked Superstar (With Oliver Humperdink) defeated Cousin Luke via pinfall. Maybe it’s all the beatings at the hands of the Missing Link he’s taken over the past few months, or maybe he took umbrage with Masked Superstar’s derisive comments about the level of competition in CCW, maybe he ate an extra bowl of Wheaties this morning, but Cousin Luke brought his A game tonight. The big hillbilly gave the Masked Superstar more trouble then the masked man was clearly expecting. In the end, it was only with the assistance, i.e. interference of Sir Oliver Humperdink that The Masked Superstar was able to gain a hard fought victory.
The Heavenly Bodies (With Jim Cornette) defeated Virgil and Koko B. Ware via pinfall. Ever since commissioner Ellering announced that the Heavenly Bodies would be the first opponents of the Road Warriors upon their return, Cornette’s men have been fired up. They brought that energy into this match against the always game duo of Virgil and Koko. The superior team work of the Bodies, and the distracting presence of Mama Cornette’s baby boy at ringside were to much for Virgil and Koko, and The Doctor of Desire put away Virgil after walloping him with a chain he had hidden in his boot.
Curt Hennig (With Bobby Henan) and Ted DiBiase battled to a double disqualification. Curt Hennig jumped DiBiase during the introductions, and the match was out of control from the word go! The fight spilled out onto the arena floor, and the referee ended up disqualifying both men for ignoring his instructions.
The Scoundrels (With Steve Corino) defeated The Killer Bees (With Bob Orton Jr.) via disqualification. This match featured the high-energy offense of the Killer Bees against the Machiavellian cunning of Stevens and Zbyszko, but that wasn’t the big story here. This match also featured the latest chapter in the war between Steve Corino and Bob Orton Jr., but that wasn’t the big story here. The big story here was, about three minutes into the match, with The Scoundrels in control, Bob Orton Senior came down to the ring, brandishing a tire iron! Corino, who has been mocking Bob Sr.’s legacy for weeks, suddenly found himself sandwiched between two angry Ortons. Corino fled through the crowd, and Bob Jr. gave chase. Then, Bob Sr. entered the ring and nailed Larry Zbyszko with the tire iron, causing the Bees to lose via disqualification, but sending a clear message to the Scoundrels that there would be consequences for their association with Corino.
Harley Race defeated The Missing Link (With Johnny Fairplay) by pinfall. Before the match, Johnny Fairplay took the house mic to demand, once again, a television title shot for his charge, the Missing Link. This prematch posturing was, unfortunately for him, the high point of the night for Link. Harley Race dominated the unpredictable Link from bell to bell. After a Race piledriver, Fairplay attempted to interfere, but the attempt backfired as {see card}. Then, after another piledriver, the referee counted three and Race got his hand raised. Another rough night for the Fairplay Tribe.
No DQ six man tag team match: Inoki International (Billy Lyons, Mad Dog Vachon, & Ivan Koloff ) defeated The Boogie Woogie Man & The Dream Team (With Captain Lou) via pinfall. For the second week in a row, Sherri Martel did not accompany Ivan Koloff to the ring, which meant she also didn’t accompany Lyons and Vachon. This match was just as wild as one would expect with this much bad blood in one ring. Koloff and Boogie-Woogie brawled outside the ring repeatedly, while Vachon and Lyons traded high impact moves with the Dream Team. In the end, Koloff brought his Russian Chain into play, and used it to KO Brutus Beefcake of the Dream Team and get the 1-2-3 for his team.
The big contract signing for the main event at Slamfest was next. While the ring crew set up a table and four chairs in the center of the ring, CCW Commissioner Paul Ellering made his way out from the back. The Commissioner got a warm reception from the Arkansans in attendance, but nothing compared to the cheer that went up when Diamond Dallas Page’s theme song played over the Bud Walton Arena sound system. Page, dressed in a Razorback’s jersey, blue jeans and cowboy boots slapped hands with the fans as he made his way to the ring. Then, the familiar rhythm of Japanese taiko drums signaled the arrival of the continental champion, Antonio Inoki. A chorus of boos rained down as Inoki, wearing a finely tailored three piece suit and accompanied by Sherri Martel in full Geisha attire, made his way to the ring. Once in the ring, Ellering presented the contract to both wrestlers, Page’s in English, and Inoki’s in Japanese. Page was about to sign, when Inoki stopped him. Speaking in Japanese, with Martel translating, Inoki-san announced that he had one simple demand, but if it was not met, there would be no match at Slamfest. This clearly enraged Ellering, who’d been trying to make this match happen for two months, but Page insisted on hearing the champion out. That was when Inoki dropped his bombshell. He would not sign the contract unless a clause was added stating that if Page failed to win the title at Slamfest, not only would Page receive no rematch, but Inoki would never again have to defend his title against an American! The determined challenger and the smug champion locked eyes for an intense stare down, While Ellering objected loudly. In the end though, DDP agreed, and the contracts were signed. The main event at Slamfest will be DDP Vs. Antonio Inoki for the Continental Championship, with DDP carrying the hopes of all Americans on his shoulders. As the champion and his manager were preparing to leave, the second surprise of the contract signing occurred, as Ravishing Rick Rude came out to the ring. While Rude will be challenging for the Television Title held by Frank Gotch at Slamfest, he quickly made it clear that wasn’t what he was there to address. Rude was still angry at Inoki for abandoning him during last week's tag team match, and he wanted a match with Inoki right then and there to settle the score! Rude got a huge cheer for that, possibly the first of his career, but Martel refused on her man’s behalf, pointing out that Inoki had not come to Fayetteville expecting a match and didn’t even have his gear. That’s when Commissioner Ellering stepped in, and made the match for next week! And just to sweeten the pot, Ellering appointed a special guest referee, none other then Diamond Dallas Page!
Tag Team Title match: Gold Rush (Lover Boy Dennis Condrey and Red Bastian, with Luscious Johnny V.) defeated The Kangaroos via pinfall. This match had been a long time coming in the lengthy feud between the uber-Australian tag team champions and the trio of challengers. It wasn’t until match time that Costello and Heffernan learned they would be facing Bastian and Condrey, but that element of the unknown didn’t seem to affect them. From the early on set, Costello and Heffernan worked to isolate Condrey, who suffered severely at their hands. Eventually, Condrey was able to make a hot tag to Red, who came in looking to even the score, but Bastian’s offensive was cut short and he seemingly found himself on the receiving end of more punishment. Then, out of nowhere, Red tied up Costello in a small package! Heffernan tried to make the save, but was cut off by Condrey. Three seconds later, and CCW had new Tag Team Champions!
With Slamfest just three weeks away, CCW begins what we affectionately call the "Texas Three Step", which will conclude at the super card in Denton Texas on the 12th of April. First up though, CCW returns to the Convocation Center, in San Antonio!
The huge main event has already been signed for San Antonio, and will see Continental Champion Antonio Inoki battle Rick Rude in a non-title match, with special guest referee Diamond Dallas Page! Inoki-San might be right about Ellering being out to get him, but there’s no love lost between Page and Rude either; it was just two months ago Page beat Rude to become the number one contender, and it was only seven days ago that Rude once again felt the sting of the Diamond Cutter.
Mean while, Commissioner Ellering will be on hand to make a major announcement regarding the tag team championship and Gold Rush’s first defense, which will happen at Slamfest.
Johnny Fairplay will finally get what he wants when the Missing Link faces Frank Gotch. . . Sort of. The James Gang will join forces with Gotch to take on the whole Fairplay Tribe in a six-man tag team match. Fairplay is incensed that it’s not a title match between Link and Gotch, but hey, small steps. . . Right, Johnny?
As a result of what happened tonight, the match has been made for next week pitting The Scoundrels against Bob Orton Senior and Bob Orton Junior. Bob Sr. comes out of retirement to team with his son, and you know Steve Corino will be watching!
Also, Curt Hennig, Masked Superstar, The Iron Sheik, King Kong Bundy, The Sheik, Road Warrior Animal, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Jimmy Snuka and others will be in action, in what promises to be the most dangerous night in San Antonio since March 6th, 1836!!!!
CCW presents the second battle of the Alamo! Be there!

The Legends of CCW return to the Convocation Center in San Antonio Texas this coming Monday! Here’s a look at the card:
The Ortons battle The Scoundrels. After Bob Orton Sr. surprise appearance this past Monday, the duo of Zbyszko and Stevens will see first hand if the old man can still go. Virgil will face off against Curt Hennig, who will, as always, be accompanied by Bobby Hennan Ted Dibiase will team up with Cousin Luke to square off against The Masked Superstar who’ll be teaming with his manager, Oliver Humperdink Billy Lyons, presumably accompanied by Sherri Martel, will go one on one with Brutus Beefcake of The Dream Team, who will have Captain Lou at ringside. The Sheik and The Iron Sheik will try to work together when they face off against Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Don Muraco The James Gang join forces with Television Champion Frank Gotch to take on The Fairplay Tribe (Missing Link & The Samoan Gangster Party) managed of course by Johnny Fairplay. After a 13 month absence, Road Warrior Animal returns to action. His opponent will be one half of the team he and his partner will face at Slamfest, Dr. Tom Pritchard. The semi-main event promises to be a block buster of brutality. After an alleged fast count two weeks ago, King Kong Bundy has requested a Texas Death Match, and Jimmy Snuka has agreed! And in the big main event, Continental champion Antonio Inkoi (with Sherri Martel) will square off against Ravishing Rick Rude in a non-title match, with Diamond Dallas Page serving as special guest referee!
