Episode 015 of the Empire Wrestling Federation
Live from the War Memorial Auditorium, Buffalo, NY
03-15-2008
Gorilla Monsoon: Hello and welcome everybody to the EWF spectacular here live from Buffalo. I’m joined here by…
Bobby Heenan: Your HOST Bobby “The Brain” Heenan. Wow, when they said we were going to Buffalo, they didn’t tell me there would be buffalos in the audience.
GM: What are you talking about?
BH: Have you seen the size of the women in this town?
GM: Every time that I think I’ve figured you out, you sink to a new low.
BH: Gesundheidt.
GM: [Shaking his head] Anyway, tonight we have a blockbuster of a card. Two big title matches, with the first one featuring EWF Champion Buddy Rogers defending against Antonio Rocca, and then there is your man, Ravishing Rick Rude.
BH: That’s right, the LWA Heavyweight champion “Ravishing” Rick Rude defends the title against some bozo.
GM: That’s Bobo! As in the dynamic Bobo Brazil. Let’s kick things off with a match between two men that has been hot these last few weeks, Pepper Gomez and Jimmy Snuka. Much to everyone’s surprise Gomez has taken the first 2 matches between them. Let’s see if the 3rd time is the charm for the Superfly.
1. Pepper Gomez vs. The Savage SnukaThe wildman Snuka was infuriated after losing his last 2 matches to Gomez. He took out his frustrations on Gomez and controlled most of the match. Snuka tried a Superfly Leap but landed on Pepper Gomez’ abdomen and the “Man with the Iron Stomach” kicked out. Snuka then tried another Superfly Leap and hit Gomez in the head and got the pin. After the match Snuka hit another Superfly Leap to Gomez’ head and Gomez needed to be taken out on a stretcher.
Result: Jimmy Snuka by PIN with SUPERFLY LEAP. Pepper Gomez injured 5 cards.GM: A horrific display by the Savage Snuka. Someone needs to get that man under control.
BH: Don’t look at me. I’m staying as far away from that guy as possible. Excuse me Monsoon, I have some important business to attend to.
GM: The business that Brain speaks of is our next match, featuring Heenan family member King Kong Bundy taking on Red Bastien. This match was signed after Bundy injured Bastien’s tag partner Billy Red Lyons. Let’s see if Bastien can avenge his partner.
2. King Kong Bundy vs. Red BastienBundy tried toying around with the smaller Bastien, as he has tried to do with other cruiserweights. Bastien however put up a fight and Bundy had to get down to business. After a struggle, Bundy was able to hit the Avalanche and would have been able to get a 3 count. However, when Bundy insisted on a 5 count, Bastien was able to kick out. This set off the big man from Atlantic City, who continued to pound on Bastien while ignoring the referee’s warnings. The ref finally had enough of Bundy’s antics and called for the bell, awarding the match to Red Bastien.
Result: Red Bastien by DisqualificationGM: What a turn of events. Just when it looked like Bundy was going to pick up the victory, his cockiness got the best of him and it cost him the match. Maybe the next match will go more to the Brain’s liking. His charge Nick Bockwinkel is set to take on the man who got the surprise pin on him a short time ago, the impressive Danny Hodge.
3. Nick Bockwinkel vs. Danny HodgeThe tough man from Oklahoma was not able to surprise Bockwinkel this time, who underestimated Hodge in their last impromptu match. Hodge put up a fight as he always does, but eventually fell victim to a well-timed Bobby Heenan distraction, which lead to a Bockwinkel sleeper and a win for the man from Hollywood.
Result: Nick Bockwinkel by submission with the BOCKWINKEL SLEEPERGM: A big win for Nick Bockwinkel, but as expected he did receive a little help from the Brain.
BH: What are you talking about? That match was all Bockwinkel, I was minding my own business the entire time.
GM: How about that extracurricular activity of yours outside the ring?
BH: I was just pointing out to Hodge that I though his boot was untied. It’s called being polite.
GM: Is that what you call polite? You really are unbelievable. I’m being told that it is now time for another exciting rivalry that has captivated the EWF audience. I’m talking about Diamond Dallas Page and Larry Zbyszko!
4. Diamond Dallas Page vs. Larry ZbyszkoThese two men come into the match with a number of bumps and bruises inflicted on each other. Those expecting a scientific encounter were surely disappointed, as this was an all-out brawl. The battle went in and out of the ring. In the end, Zbyszko was able to catch DDP with his patented Piledriver for the win. After the match, Zbyszko tried to end his opponent’s career. He took Page outside and removed the protective mat and tried another piledriver outside the ring. Luckily DDP was able to get out of the move and hit a Diamond Cutter on Zbyszko out of nowhere onto the concrete. While he clearly had bad intentions, in the end it was Larry Zbyszko who took the worse end of the match.
Result: Larry Zbyszko by PIN with the PILEDRIVERGM: This one looks far from over. It’s just a matter of when Zbyszko will be able to return. He took a hard shot.
BH: If I was Larry Zbyszko I would sue this Diamond Dallas Page. Did you see how he intentionally tried to end Zbyszko’s career?
GM: Do you need your eyes checked? It was Zbyszko who was trying to end DDP’s career. Luckily for DDP he was able to reverse the piledriver. Not so lucky for the Living Legend.
BH: Given Page’s record, he really needs to change his name. I’m thinking Cubic Zarconia Dallas Page.
GM: Are you finished? Next up we have Buffalo’s adopted son, Ilio Dipaolo, against his arch-enemy, Gorgeous George.
5. Ilio Dipaolo vs. Gorgeous GeorgeThe crowd erupts as the hometown hero Ilio Dipaolo appears before the Buffalo crowd. The cheers change to a chorus of boos, as Gorgeous George makes his way to the ring and undergoes a long pre-match ritual. The ritual was broken up by Dipaolo, who starts off the match like a house of fire. Dipaolo hit an Airplane Spin, but the ref was occupied by Cheri Dupree. The distraction presented an opening for Gorgeous George, who blinded the Italian with a bobby pin to the face. Much to the fans’ dismay, the match ended with Dipaolo tapping out to Gorgeous George’s patented Spinning Toe Hold.
Result: Gorgeous George by Submission with the SPINNING TOE HOLDGM: A disappointing result for the Buffalo audience.
BH: Yep, I guess its back to making calzones for Ilio.
GM: Hardly. I’m sure we’ll see Ilio back to his winning ways in no time. Now it’s time for a match that many people have been waiting to see.
BH: Sorry, Monsoon, but neither of these gentlemen are part of the Heenan Family, so I doubt there is really much interest.
GM: I doubt the Heenan Family would want any part of Waldek Kowalski or Ed Lewis. These two have had a number of run-ins the past couple weeks, but this is their first one-on-one encounter.
6. Waldek Kowalski vs. Ed “Strangler” LewisThese two men just plain don’t like each other and it showed. Both men inflicted some brutal shots on each other and the referee was quite lax with the rule book. Kowalski was never able to successfully get the Claw Hold cinched in. However, Lewis was able to get the Strangler’s Headlock locked on. Kowalski was able to keep from submitting for a couple minutes in the move. However, the pain was eventually too much and Kowalski passed out and the match was awarded to Ed Lewis. After the match Yukon Eric came down to the ring to assist his friend Kowalski. Kowalski pushed Yukon away refusing his help in getting back to the dressing room.
Result: Ed “Strangler” Lewis by Submission by STRANGLER’S HEADLOCKGM: Quite a showing there by the Strangler. I’ve never seen anyone handle Kowalski like that. However, you really have to hand it to Waldek for not giving up despite the pain that he was obviously in.
BH: I think that he just didn’t know the English words for “I quit”, so the ref didn’t know what he was talking about.
GM: Regardless, I believe that Kowalski will look to get his hands on Lewis again and I can’t wait for that wild encounter. And speaking of wild encounters, this next encounter will certainly be a barnburner.
BH: That’s right Monsoon. These two teams have had a number of disputed finishes and now its time to settle this under Colorado Cyclone rules!
GM: That’s Texas Tornado rules, and this match will hopefully settle the long standing feud between Ted DiBiase and Steve Williams and Blonde Ambition.
Texas Tornado Tag Team Match7. Ted DiBiase & Steve Williams vs. Blonde Ambition (Greg Valentine & Buddy Rose)A standard tag team match could not settle this feud, so the EWF’s first Texas Tornado match was signed. In this match, all 4 men are allowed in the ring at the same time and anyone can pin anyone at any time. This match was a wild affair, in and out of the ring, and with no disqualification, all sorts of tactics were used. All 4 men were busted open during the match. In the end, Doctor Death hit Playboy Buddy Rose with the Oklahoma Stampede and knocked him out of the ring. Williams and DiBiase followed up with a double DDT on Greg Valentine and DiBiase scored the pinfall in the blowoff to this huge feud.
Result: Ted DiBiase and Steve Williams by PIN with Double DDT on Greg ValentineGM: Wow, what a match. The blood was really flowing in that one Brain.
BH: No kidding Monsoon, for a while I thought it was the Flying Redheads fighting instead of Blonde Ambition.
GM: A big win for DiBiase and Williams. They have to be a big favorite for the newly announced EWF tag team title that will be awarded in a few weeks.
BH: Big favorite? I’m sorry, but the big favorites are not those 2 rednecks…the favorites are the Heenan Family duo of Nick Bockwinkel and Ray Stevens.
GM: We will see who the best team is in a few short weeks. In the meantime, there is one EWF title of concern and that matchup is up next. Antonio Rocca gets another shot at Buddy Rogers. Let’s go to the ring!
EWF Heavyweight Championship8. Buddy Rogers vs. Antonio RoccaThe fans were totally behind Antonio Rocca in this one. The champion and challenger were even throughout the match and both men were able to get out of eachother’s finishers. The finish came when Rocca was able to successfully hit the Argentine Backbreaker. However, as the ref was counting the pinfall, a mysterious man in sunglasses jumped into the ring and broke up the pin. The referee called for the disqualification, much to the fans’ disappointment. Rogers and the mysterious stranger went back to the dressing room together.
Result: Rocca by disqualificationGM: A travesty of justice there, as Antonio Rocca looked to be the new champion, but Buddy Rogers escapes yet again. Just who was that man who saved Roger’s title?
BH: Monsoon, does it really matter? There is only one title that REALLY matters and that is the LWA Heavyweight Championship. And the man who holds that title is Ravishing Rick Rude. Excuse me while I go see to the champ.
GM: Well, I’m sure we will have an update soon on exactly who Buddy Rogers’ new friend is. In the meantime, it’s time for our Main Event. LWA Champion Rick Rude defends against Midwest fan-favorite Bobo Brazil!
LWA Heavyweight Championship9. “Ravishing” Rick Rude vs. Bobo BrazilThe LWA champion addresses the “Buffalo Blubberheads” before the match to a chorus of boos. Those boos changed to overwhelming cheers as the HWA’s Bobo Brazil is introduced to the audience. Brazil controlled the match, landing a number of Coco Butts. However, every time Brazil went for the pin, manager Bobby Heenan interjected himself into the match. Eventually the referee had enough and ejected Heenan to the back. The Brain obviously did not go quietly. The match continued and Rude was able to get back into the match despite the absence of his manager. There was a near fall counted at one point and it appeared that Bobo Brazil had won the LWA title, but a second ref came down to ringside and informed the official that Rude’s foot was under the rope. The match was restarted and after some more back and forth between the 2 men, Rude was able to hit 2 consecutive Rude Awakenings and walked away still champion.
Result: Rick Rude by PIN with RUDE AWAKENINGGM: What an exhilarating match! I’m sure my broadcast colleague wasn’t happy about being tossed out, but he had to be happy with the end result. I’m also sure that the HWA can’t be happy with the restart of the match after it appeared that Bobo Brazil had won the title. It goes down in the books as a defense for Rude, but I’m sure that this won’t be the last encounter between these 2 gentlemen. That’s all we have here from Buffalo. I hope you enjoyed this night of EWF action. Please join us again next time.
