And now the Nevada Assembly has also approved the stadium financing plan. The last two hurdles are 1) for the governor to sign the bill (that is a given as he personally actually proposed the financing plan that the Nevada legislature has approved, obviously he is not going to veto his own plan) and 2) the MLB owners have to vote to approve the move (that should be close to if not unanimously a yes as owners like getting publicly funded stadiums and leverage to use against their own cities for new stadiums.) www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/37854943/athletics-stadium-deal-wins-final-legislative-approval-nevada

While we are still waiting for the MLB owners to approve the As move to Las Vegas, I have two concerns:
1) After the As leave Oakland after the 2024 season when their lease has expired there, they may not play in Las Vegas until 2028 when the new stadium will be ready. For example, Sacramento has been in talks to have the As play there in their AAA stadium until the ballpark in Las Vegas is ready in 2028. Sacramento need to zip its lip. Sacramento is not the one paying $380 million to build the As a stadium. If the As have to play in a AAA stadium for 3 years then it should be in the AAA stadium in the city paying for their new ballpark and nowhere else. Plus I have been to both the AAA stadium in Sacramento and of course to the new AAA stadium here in Las Vegas and the one in Las Vegas is nicer, newer (opened in 2019,) and has won Baseball Digest's Award for Best AAA Stadium. {On a side note about AAA baseball stadiums, next week I am going to the stadium in Omaha with TK before we drive over to Waterloo the next day.}
2) The Oakland As have been great at developing talent but they always trade this talent away right before they become free agents instead of resigning them. Just in the last few years the As have not attempted to retain Sean Murphy (who is playing for Atlanta in today's All Star Game,) Matt Olson (who is also playing for Atlanta in today's All Star Game,) Marcus Semien (who is playing for Texas in today's All Star Game,) Matt Chapman, Sean Manaea, Chris Bassitt, Mark Canha, Liam Hendricks, A.J. Puk, and Jesus Lazardo. So it is not a surprise that although the Kansas City Royals are currently on pace to have their worst record in Royals franchise history, the As are somehow even worse this year. In the past, As ownership has cited lack of revenue from their bad stadium situation in Oakland as an excuse for not retaining their top players. They can't use that excuse anymore once they move to Las Vegas. If the As don't start spending money to keep their players once they arrive in Las Vegas then I really would have preferred to get an expansion team instead.

No surprise....of course if the owners don't bother building up the team, they won't be long in Vegas either.

I heard the A's were already in Vegas as of last night. One of the F1 cars ran over them during practice. Oh wait. That was a drain cover. Meh, same thing at this point.

I think now that the Athletics are in Las Vegas and will have more capital with stadium deal and attendance, we'll see them start to turn around. A's have been pretty good over the last few decades at drafting and developing talent in the Minors. Now that they can actually afford to keep the young talent and bring in other stars via free agency to round out the roster, I'm hopeful they will be contenders again.
