Hello, everyone. I am currently in the spring of 2125 with the heinous Sly Drury as Commish pof the GWF as per the storyline. I just wanted to some advice on how all of you wonderful promoters made him more heinous. What decisions did he make in your fed did he make that were to his advantage and were controversial? Currently, I had him suspend Hector indefinitely (but that won't last long as the GWF Board of Directors are getting smart) and Tauran (for 'abuse of a substance that makes him younger and, therefore, tougher in the ring *ahem ahem*). He has also sanctioned matches pitting his own grapplers in advantageous positions vs FDF and others against him (biased ref, etc/) But I really want him to be that incorrigible commissioner and make decisions that will have the fans and wrestlers hate him. Any ideas? Your wise counsel will make my fed all the better.

If you want everyone to hate him, instead of focusing on how to make him heinous, focus on how you would make him attractive to villain wrestlers. Not in a dating way, but in a power play way. Look at the members of his stable or alliance. What can or has he done to earn their loyalty? Does he pay them money? Does he give them title shots? Does he allow them to bend the rules? Does he see their enemy as his enemy, too?
By flipping the focus, I think this will open up a lot of ideas not only for Sly Drury, but for his compatriots. A good heel, to me, always operates from a sense of logic. It doesn't have to be true, but it does have to be something they believe in their own mind to be true. Find the truth for these characters, so you can not only understand them, but also have insight as to their goals. Once goals are recognized, plans can be put into action. Nefarious plans.
Also, here's an idea to put in your mind. What is someone on the team isn't performing the goals? What if they aren't pulling their weight? How would Sly deal with them? And if they are cut loose (regardless of how), would they be replaced? Or would the circle of allies fall away, and in time, fall apart?
To answer your question directly, I had Sly curry favor with the villain teams by making deals with them. As time went by, he would start to stop fulfilling his end of the bargain. The number of enemies he would have in the locker room would start to grow. And Sly Drury would start to take greater and greater steps to protect himself, even at the expense of his allies if needed. Eventually, someone is going to get to him. And that anticipation is what makes a storyline great.

This may come as a shock, but I was thinking that it would be better for Sly Drury to be an anti-hero commissioner. He has his allies in Patch, and his enemies in Hector, but he doesn't go out of his way to outright punish people for their actions. Whenever a big match is happening, he asks the referee to offer a bit of leniency towards the wrestlers involved (by using his commissioner card on both wrestlers). This would obviously tick off Endgame who wants the rules to be followed, which in turn would cause Sly to put his foot down on Sleeper Cell (which would tick off Anivar since he likes Sleeper Cell).
That's how I'd use Sly Drury anyway.

In my COTG fed, Ring of Vega (ROV,) I never used Sly Drury as the Commissioner because my fed instead is run by Mr. Vega.
I am currently in 2131 and I am about to transition to where I will be bringing in the 2132 wrestlers which includes a returning Sly Drury who according to the official storyline is supposed to take over the fed. But I will just have Sly Drury lead his Martial Law faction instead.

I am currently in 2131 and I am about to transition to where I will be bringing in the 2132 wrestlers which includes a returning Sly Drury who according to the official storyline is supposed to take over the fed. But I will just have Sly Drury lead his Martial Law faction instead. I was not a huge fan of Drury as Commissioner. I liked him with a co-Commish who could balance him out. |
