For what it's worth!?
Former WWE Superstars Akam and Rezar of AOP are reportedly retired from pro wrestling.
It was reported today by Fightful Select that other wrestlers had inquired about bringing The Authors of Pain to particular wrestling companies last year, but nothing ever came of it. It was noted that Akam and Rezar were brought up to AEW last year, but officials weren’t sure if they were a good fit at the time. The door was still left open for AOP to potentially work with AEW in the future.
AOP were also suggested to NJPW officials, but the company was not bringing over new talent to Japan at that time, and the budget for such a move was said to have not been near what was required. As of now, word going around is that both members of AOP are working regular jobs these days.
One promoter who reached out to AOP were informed that both men had “retired” from the business. It wasn’t clear if the wrestlers themselves said they were retired, or a representative for the group did. Akam, age 28, and Rezar, age 26, were released from their WWE contracts on September 4 of last year.

The feeling when they were released was that they would probably both quit the business, so not surprised. They were exceptionally young when they signed to WWE, neither were "wrestling guys" but were recruited from other sports because of their impressive size and athleticism. It's probably pretty daunting to think about going from the biggest company in the world to hustling for indie dates if the heart isn't one hundred percent into the business.
EDIT: "Albanian Psycho" formerly known as Rezar has taken to Twitter to seemingly deny they're done. So maybe they're just waiting on... something. Perhaps Japan to start bringing in outsiders full force again. That's their best option imo

Going from a lucrative career to a daily grind for less could leave you kicking yourself for not giving it a chance. Sure it's hard, and it doesn't always go your way, but it's the hard that makes it great. No one should look at Indies or anything else like it's daunting or even slumming it. It's opportunity. One door closes, another opens. These kids should have a long life ahead of them. Pro wrestling may not be for them, but it's hard to say if you quit before they really got started? I hope they give it a second chance, I agree NJPW might be a good spot for them, but it depends on how bad they want it?

I guess via Twitter the AOP responded to their retirement news with "Ain't done yet, bitches!" Ok then! 🤷

It's a tricky business. I hope AOP stays active. Retirement sucks and it really looks like the dirt sheets are just stirring things up maybe?
