What can I say, but it was a blast as usual! Great little town, great and convenient hotel and great venue. The only thing... you could complain about in this Quant little town was the parking! I won't go into detail but it had to be seen to be believed.
First and foremost I want to give a LOUD shout out to Todd and Mike for making it ALL possible, virtual and live. Without them there would be NO Galacticon. I realize Tom started it all and Mark Ashby brought the community together but once Tom left Jamestown GCon went on life support and it was those two GOOD guys that picked up the ball and is keeping it alive. I heard some grumbling there and I even grumble a bit along the way about it being in Eastern PA again but I totally get it. You can better believe if it was me hosting and putting on GCon for everyone it would be in Columbus, Ohio where I live. It was in Jamestown for so many years because Tom lived there, nuff said. Bottom line... we owe them a debt of gratitude for everything they do for this misfit dysfunctional family.
Matthew, Ben and I (first 3 generation family ever to be at Galacticon) arrived in Phoenixville about 430pm Friday. Checked into hotel and headed across the street, yes across the street to the sweet ass venue. Todd and Mike had it set up so we got a closed off whole half of the place. Lot's of room, a full bar and great food. I got my sets and visited with some old friends and made some new ones as well. And... then Pete Beck arrived and after some heated words, not really truth be told I love Mr. Beck, we played the first 3 matches of our best of nine series. Disciple of Terror 3-0
Saturday was a great time as usual, tournaments, talking and reminiscing. I drew Kurt Angle in the LOW tournament and got smoked in the second round by Chuck and Randy Savage, 4 move I think. Great dice rolls, along with my horrible pin save roll equated to a bad time for me - Savage did go on to win that tournament, so there is that. I jobbed horribly in the other two tournaments, as well as the Canada Cup on Sunday and I forfeited my title to Todd as I didn't qualify for the cup tournament. Spent way to much in the auction, again. I gave my MLW tickets to Ty States and first timer James, they really enjoyed it and I was happy to do it. Oh, and... finished Pete off in the sweep BAY-BAY!!! DISCIPLE OF TERROR 5-0
Pete looked great in his I ā¤ D.O.T. tee shirt that everyone sign.
Sunday was a lot of talking with old friends and new ones, jobbed in Canada Cup as stated above, said our goodbyes and headed back on our 71/2 trip home.
Though it's never goodbye, it's see you next year.
Until Tony Dehaven gets a bootleg card to fight Angle...
(That's a whole wild story unto itself - look him up, he was in the Foxcatcher room with Angle and many other NAMES. Tony lives in that town and... took a shine to me. š)
