Count me in for sets without a theme. I work very little on the legends side of things but the way I understand it is we often have some pretty big names signed who donโt get cards for months - even years after they have signed because they donโt fit whatever theme the LOW team has been planning for.
Sets without a specific theme would in theory allow wrestlers to enter the game much faster (maybe even immediately). This helps avoid uncomfortable moments when a wrestler forgets they signed w FG, or if something changes with their availability (like signing a legends deal w WWE or going to AEW etc)
I would also think that releasing signed wrestlers ASAP would lend even more to the growing credibility of FG and really help with referrals. Imagine a wrestler signing a deal then hearing nothing back for months even years. That kind of thing could be a negative if these wrestlers start talking to each order about how they sighed w FG but never heard back from us.
A sense of urgency to get a wrestler signed should be followed by an even greater sense of urgency to card them. The good news is I know a lot of recently signed guys and gals do get cards pretty quickly because the themes are being built around them. Sets without a theme might help even more signings get cards quicker. Just my random mostly useless thoughts on LOW. ๐ฌ

I think era would be good for a bit and then eventually just release whoever you want.

Most of the b&w sets were just the best names we have to fill a set now. Then the themes started. They are nice but nothing wrong with a random assortment of Legends that make a good set. Even more so now that you aren't naming them and just numbering each expansion set.

Hey Chad Olson you are not alone, I would love to have a young Curt Hennig card! Using Mr. Perfect in an 80's fed, just doesn't feel right to me! as for guys getting a second card... We need The Dark Patriot!! and Yeah, I would buy a set of all color remakes.

As would I. Count me as another one who's not hung up on themed sets and would gladly buy an all-around "burnoff" set of B&W converts. I've yet to see a color Legends card that had me thinking, "Oh man, I wish they hadn't changed that" or, "They missed an opportunity to do this."

In the near future, I would like there to be at least a loose theme for each set, even if it's only era-based. I'm mostly an '80s fan, and I think there could be at least 1-2 more '80s sets released with black and white updates. But like Stu, I'd love a '50s-'60s-early '70s set since there are so many great names from that time frame that haven't made it to color.
As for other theme ideas, mine would be another tag team set, similar to expansion 1: Kangaroos, Tolos Bros, Love Bros, and Mongols would be a good start (Fuji and Saito too, but I assume Saito will be in next year's HOF set).
And I would love a young Curt Hennig card! I will always have time for cards that fit into an AWA fed.
Thanks for another good episode!

I'll be curious if they'll have enough signings for another Tragos/Thesz set next year or not. If not, I don't see the need to hold back Saito and Banner (and Fuji)
Having seen the list, there's not a huge amount of names available so if we get another set, it will probably be even more studded than the last set.
I now totally want all three Mongols because it would be fun. Link is another guy I'd love to be using.

Honestly, don't think I have too much to add regarding the topic of theme vs. random releases... I'm cool with any Legend arriving at anytime.
That being said, I would be really excited for a color LOW set that would include guys like AJ Styles, Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, Ricochet, Kevin Steen, Claudio Castagnoli, etc. Wrestlers that are still active, but have been featured on the national stage for a considerable period of time... Certainly long enough that stats could be based on a very respectable body of work... If a set like this ever gets the green light, I would also hope that Brodie Lee would get a Legends card.... With the support of his family, of course.
Another superb episode, guys... And it should lead into some really great discussions... Very nice work!

I listened to this episode this morning while playing out and posting results in my COTG fed.
To me it is not important at all if LOW sets have themes and IMO it has always been inevitable that at some point they would not have themes once enough of the LOW cards got converted to color unless only smaller sets of a few cards get released at a time. I really don't have a problem if for example someone like the Fabulous Kangaroos get released in the same set as someone like Super Crazy.
As for mixing the black and white LOW cards with the color LOW cards, I personally choose not to do so but only because it makes the release of converted black and white cards to color more fun for me in regards to booking. For example, if Rick Rude was to get announced for a color card and I was using his black and white card in a feud with George Steele than I just replace his black and white color card with his color card and continue that ongoing feud with George Steele, no real booking decision there. But if I only use the color cards, these announcements become more fun for me as I decide how I am going to introduce them into my fed, which of my 3 brands to put them on, etc. This way all the wrestlers in the LOW color sets are new to me instead of just 2-4 names per set.
Having said that, once all or most of the black and white cards have been converted to color, I will use some of the remaining black and white only LOW cards in my fed without a problem.
Also, thanks to Cory for his kind words about my work on the Indy sets as well as the CWFH sets that I work on with Grant!
