I'm a fan of CBJ as well. Great arena and fanbase (i have family there). Hope to see them finally get over the hump. I wish Columbus had had a team when I lived in Ohio. I definitely would have supported them over those Red Wings. Sorry, Matt, couldn't resist! Hey, does that count as a drink in the UT Drinking Game if I take Mark Ashby's spot? I'll have one for you with dinner tonight!

I finished listening to this episode today. It was good to hear Matt as a guest on the show.
Having spent my entire life in the Seattle area and then in Las Vegas, I was not much of a hockey fan as neither area had an NHL team until VGK started in 2017. I did go to some minor league Seattle Thunderbirds games though and I remember seeing Patrick Marleau play in 1996 for Seattle who years earlier had future Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood.
I have only attended NHL games here in Las Vegas and once in Vancouver (when they had Pavel Bure against the New York Rangers.) But I have been to some NHL venues for non-hockey events including Staples Center in Los Angeles where the Kings play (for 4 Summerslam PPVs and other WWE shows,) in Pittsburgh where the Penguins play (for Extreme Rules 2018 during the weekend Galacticon was in Pittsburgh that year) and in Philadelphia (for Extreme Rules 2019 during the weekend Galacticon was in Philadelphia that year.) The Pittsburgh Penguins venue is better than the Philadelphia Flyers/76ers venue IMO.
NHL 93 was the first game I bought when I finally bought a SNES in 1993 and I played that game nonstop. I also got NHL 1994 and 1995 for the SNES. For the NES, I played alot of Blades of Steel.
You guys mentioned some of the hockey movies I most enjoyed such as Miracle, the first Mighty Ducks, Mystery Alaska, and Sudden Death. I still need to see Slap Shot.
Looking forward to next week's episode.

Vegas and Cory Olson , we are simply going to have to have a watchalong now, on a future UT episode, for you both to see Slap Shot...we need to correct this wrong!! Zeke, thanks for chiming in with your feedback, always appreciated my friend!

Can't wait to give this a listen! Perhaps between late night feedings and diaper changes I can spend some quality time with the UT crew too.
Unfortunately, Chicago has been making the hockey news for all the wrong reasons - disgustingly and horrendously so. If there aren't some big changes, it may be time to look for a new team after 30 years of support.
That said, I still love hockey and always will.

Zeke, thanks for chiming in with your feedback, always appreciated my friend! I am surprised I have not seen Slap Shot yet, especially since Paul Newman is one of my favorite 1970s actors.

(I haven't listened yet...had to actually go into the office on Friday, so have a few podcasts to listen to... ) I am a Kings Fanatic by hometown loyalty and a Flames Fanatic by marriage; there are days that makes for interesting cheer in the house! Been to a few CBJ games as well, fantastic arena and fan base there...that cannon shot when they score, you better be ready for it! BUT...IF WE ARE TALKING HOCKEY...here is the song!

Plenty of room on the Kraken bandwagon, and it is a new team so … no real “bandwagon” accusations!

Another fun episode. I was a huge Hockey fan in the late 80's and 90's. Played in a Street Hockey League for years, was the undisputed King of NHL 93'-95' on the Sega Genesis of the greater Trenton area and played plenty of Strat-O Hockey.
In the last few years my Strat-O League has gotten back together and this week our hockey playoffs begin where I hope to finally win our leagues Championship the Caesarea Cup.
