Back story: I forget why but a couple months back I was thinking of Erin Moran who played Joanie on Happy Days. I checked Wiki to see what else she had done. One thing caught my eye, Galaxy of Terror. I decided I wanted to see it since 1) she was in it and 2) it was a cheesy early 80's sci-fi movie with a horror twist. Well I forgot to look for it. Then last night I was on Roku looking for something to watch. I saw it, did not remember what it was and checked the write up. When I saw Erin's name the light bulb, dim that it was, went on. So I watched.
It was a very enjoyable movie. Some cliche but some cool ideas and scenes. A pretty good cast too. Along with Erin there is Robert "not Freddy yet" Englund, Sid "cool in anything he does" Haig, Ray "My Favorite Martian but not a Martian here" Walston and Grace "Mrs Ross from Seinfeld" Zabriskie. It was produced by Roger Corman so you know what you are getting. A young James Cameron worked on the movie and might have been influenced by it. The movie got some controversy over a scene involving an actress and a monster worm/maggot. The movie was originally given an X rating until they edited a tad to get to an R. So if looking for a decent sci-fi movie with a touch of cheese and a unique story check Galaxy of Terror out. Right now it is on Roku so it costs ya nothing but an hour and half or so.
