I was born in '83 and my first memories of wrestling are from '88, so I'm not old enough to have seen a heavy dose of the "territory days". I saw GWF promoter talking about a Memphis fed with guys who were known to spend a great deal of time there. I've been trying to do some digging, but I'm curious if anyone has insight on Eddie Graham's Florida territory. Seems to me the names that pop-up the most are: Dusty Rhodes, Kevin Sullivan, Gerry & Jack Brisco...but I am having a hard time finding those "core guys" that spent a lot of time there or were synonymous with the territory itself. Obviously, guys traveled around to all territories, but are there any groups of guys that are considered "Florida" guys?

Other than Mike Graham, there were several who had significant stints there without being locked to it (Steve Keirn, Blackjack Mulligan, Barry Windham among others)

At least I know I wasn't looking in the wrong places thinking there had to be a larger list of wrestlers. I know Keirn was one b/c he ended up starting the FCW here in Tampa before it moved to Orlando and became NXT.

Indeed. If it wasn't for the Fabs, he might totally be thought of as a Florida guy who went to the WWF. Bob Roop wrestled there especially with Sullivan but hardly enough to be identified with the territory. I'd have to look after that.

I got into wrestling around the same time frame so do not have the strong knowledge of others on here for the territories. But I would think one way to get an idea of guys who spent a lot of time in a certain promotion is check the title history. If someone held the top, secondary or tag titles numerous times it would seem they spent a lot of time in the territory.

A few guys I always associate with Florida...
Eddie Graham Mike Graham Dusty Rhodes Bob Roop Buddy Colt Hiro Matsuda The Briscos Boris Malenko Sam Steamboat Bob Orton Sr. Larry Hamilton (The Missouri Mauler) Bobby Shane
A lot of these guys can easily be associated with other places too. Florida was a seasonal territory until sometime in the mid/later 60s (IIRC) so a lot of the earlier guys did lots of stuff other places.

There was some blonde musclehead Superstar Graham wannabe, Terry something or other, who broke into the business there but made more of a mark elsewhere.๐
