The thread name pretty much says it all. It dawned on me today that Home Alone is a family friendly Die Hard. Bad guys trying to commit a crime on or around Christmas. One brave soul stands up to them using things they find laying around. A scene with someone stepping barefoot on sharp objects. The hero is separated from a woman they love to be reunited in the end. They even both have a sequel that changes location but not really the basic concept.

Never even thought about it , but you are right . Basically Home Alone ripped off Die Hard and began the bigger hit .
Don't know about in America , but in United Kingdom a big debate every Christmas is "Is Die Hard a Christmas movie ?"

Don't know about in America , but in United Kingdom a big debate every Christmas is "Is Die Hard a Christmas movie ?" Its probably a bigger debate in the US. For many its their favorite Christmas movie and others argue against it being such. Not sure I have ever seen Die Hard all the way through. My daughter wants to watch it this year.

I would say it HAD been a debate in the past. Very much contested at that. But these days anyone with at least half a brain has acknowledged that it IS a Christmas movie. I mean my favorite Christmas movie is It's A Wonderful Life and only a small part of the movie actually takes place on Christmas.
