Val Delory, a former NHL left wing, passed away at the age of 95. The following is an excerpt from his online obituary: "He began his career with the New York Rangers, but that was short lived due to an injury. He quickly found his second career and passion with the North York Fire Department, where he served for 38 years. He deeply valued the many life-long friendships he formed with his fellow firefighters. He appeared in one game with the New York Rangers in 1949, before suffering a career-ending injury. Although he appeared in only 1 NHL game he played in the league when only 6 teams existed and every Canadian played hockey.

I have not seen The Terminal yet but I recently went to purchase Catch Me If You Can and there was a double feature with The Terminal for only a couple bucks more so I got that one. Will have to get around to watching it soon.

Jack Reed, a former MLB outfielder over all or parts of three seasons (1961–63) with the New York Yankees passed away at the age of 89. This was reported by the former Public Relations Director for the New York Yankees, Marty Appel. The following is text from Reed's online obituary: "At Ole Miss he starred in baseball, football and track and field. He played safety and quarterback on Coach John Vaught's earliest great Rebel teams and was an All SEC performer for baseball Coach Tom Swayze. After his junior year, he signed a professional contract with the New York Yankees. During his time with the Yankee organization, he served in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1957. He played in the majors for the Yankees as Micky Mantle's back up in center field from 1961-1963. He appeared in 3 World Series, winning 2 during his time there. Jack is one of only 4 people to have played in a major college football bowl game (1953 Sugar Bowl) and a World Series (1961, 1962 and 1963). Another great achievement was hitting a home run off Phil Regan of the Detroit Tigers in the 22nd inning to end the longest game in Yankee history. He was also a lifelong golfer and enjoyed playing long after his baseball career was over. Jack was inducted into the Ole Miss Athletics Hall of Fame and was awarded the Unsung Sports Hero award by the Downtown Nashville Sports Foundation.Reed was a member of the 1961 and 1962 World Series champion Yankees, although he did not appear in the latter series. An alumnus of the University of Mississippi for the Yankees, Reed played primarily as a late-inning defensive replacement for injury-riddled star outfielder Mickey Mantle. For this reason, he was popularly known as Mantle's "caddie." Reed spent his entire professional career in the Yankee organization as a player (1953–55; 1958–64) and minor league manager (1965–67). During his Major League career, Reed hit .233 with one home run and six runs batted in in 222 games played (and 129 at-bats). He is one of only seven players in Major League Baseball history with more career games played than plate appearances. He appeared in three games of the 1961 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds (won by the Yankees in five games) as a defensive replacement, spelling Mantle, Héctor López and Johnny Blanchard; he did not have a plate appearance. On June 24, 1962, Reed hit the only home run of his career in the top of the 22nd inning, as the Yankees beat the Detroit Tigers 9–7 in the longest game in Yankees' history. The blow came off Phil Regan at Tiger Stadium. Reed's 30 MLB hits also included two doubles and one triple.

It seems Reed needed time to warm up to get his power game going. A shame games are only 9 innings and not twice as long so he could have hit more dingers. RIP.
