I don't think this is a work. I don't discount Cody going back to AEW down the road, but considering the mainstream coverage this seems to be getting, this would be a shortsighted work. Is Tony Khan really willing to risk future mainstream press for a worked Cody Rhodes "free agent " storyline?

A month ago, when all of these original posts were made, it REALLY looked like it. They handled it very poorly from a business standpoint and publicly looked a lot like they were doing "wrestling business" instead.

There was a pic of him in Poland & ppl were saying he was on his way to Saudi Arabia. We will see soon I guess. It sounds more & more like it's not a work. And after reading that article, if 100%, I can understand a little bit better why the change. AEW might have dropped the ball here, but time will tell. I'm not 100% sold Cody will be happy anywhere right now and WWE will only cater to him for a limited time. Who knows what the future holds, maybe he'll get that big money CM Punk & Bryan Danielson got, some day?! 🤷

There was a pic of him in Poland & ppl were saying he was on his way to Saudi Arabia. We will see soon I guess. It looks like that was a dated photo that was taken down from the site it was posted on because the photo’s metadata was removed. Plus most people who fly out of the United States to go to Saudi Arabia do not go to Poland (which borders Ukraine who might get invaded any day now by Russia) for a connecting flight.

ZEKE - If any knows travel it’s you my friend! Kenny just did an interview w lots of comments that make it sound like he’s leaving. Saying the YB’s, himself & Cody all had different visions for the company (w KO’s n YB’s being more similar). Maybe Cody’s was much different than what AEW has become over the years. That Cody was more invested in the us vs them battle w WWE, so he’s surprised Cody was going there. Ultimately it’s (AEW) Tony K’s vision in the end. And a bunch of other stuff. Pretty interesting.

It sounds like Cody has indeed signed with WWE:
Cody Rhodes Reportedly Signs with WWE, News on His Return
Cody Rhodes has reportedly signed with WWE.
After weeks of rumors and speculation, multiple WWE sources now report that Rhodes has signed a new contract to return to the company, according to PWInsider. Rhodes reportedly inked the deal 10-14 days ago.
The current plan is for Rhodes to return during WrestleMania 38 Weekend. The early word says that Rhodes will be on the RAW brand.
Rhodes is rumored to face Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 38, but there’s no update on if that match will happen or not.
Rhodes was signed to WWE from 2006-2016. He helped launch AEW but left the company last month. It’s believed that his wife, Brandi Rhodes, will not be returning to WWE with him.
