I figure COTG is open-ended once you read through the backstory. Kind of like giving you suggestions and the foundation for the Who/What/Where/When and Why, but after that is it "up to you promoter"?
I sorted all my stables/factions last night for FDF, Rogues Gallery, Legends of the Ring, Martial Law, Covert Ops and the Gladiators. I was planning on just lining up each member of each faction with their recommended opponent and going from there, but after that, am I wanting to focus on the stable v stable scope or working on matching up guys throughout all stables?
For the sake of not being overwhelmed. I am just going to keep the current tag team for the IC together and head-cannon from there if there are splits or break-ups due to poor performance or if I decide to let a few guys try some singles matches.
Finally, scoring system for the IC...is there any universal set of points distribution that everyone follows or is it, once again, "up to you promoter"?

I can't remember if that one has it....the old War Games had a nice scoring system.

I can't remember if that one has it....the old War Games had a nice scoring system. I don't see anything in the 2125 handbook, I kept looking, but it just says no outside interference and no one allowed ringside and participants in IC can also participate in regular matches, but those results don't count towards the IC results.

WarGames is a points system way back in the 2090s in game continuity, but if you started at 2125 you wouldn't have any mention of it.

I say go nuts and have fun, use whatever guys you like and start at year ONE. Build your OWN history and not worry about GAME years, the only limitations are your imagination.

If you need ideas I would suggest looking at other promoters fed reports here on the boards. There are those who really enjoy rolling out matches and those who are more into storylines. Starting out you could run tournaments for your championships, then if you like the more storying telling side... Just do stories centered around the main title in your fed, The GWF heavyweight belt. Going by cannon is great for when your first starting out, but as you get more into it, then you can go by non-cannon plots. Or if you read something in the handbook then think of something better go with it like it is an alternate timeline from cannon.
I would also suggest making up an excel spreadsheet to keep record of your rosters win/losses, and title histories.

Exactly. I have Feds that are strictly by the book while others are completely off the wall. The only limit is how far you're willing to go. That's one way to do it. I started two feds this week and one of my favorite things to do is hold a tournament to crown my heavyweight champion. Usually my first story lines come out of that, guys are mad about being eliminated and go after the wrestler that took them out. I've done stable vs. stable as well, it's a great way to get everyone involved and build heat towards a main event with the teams top stars. Like others have said, I went with a previous games scoring system. It was something like 2 points for a pin or submission, 3 points for title victories and defenses, and points for special matches. I've tweaked it several times over the years to fit what was best for me. Enjoy whatever you do and have fun!

Getting going with COTG can be daunting IMHO. I had bought the LOW starter, and then on a followup order, got intrigued by one of the famous "bonus" cards someone at Fed HQ had included. I think it was Monolith. The color cards looked *so* great, and I was fascinated at *who* this guy was?
So I tried to get started with COTG, and boy it wasn't easy. I bought New Beginnings 2119 after hearing that was a good jumping on point, but I had learned enough about the backstory that I felt like I was missing out, and I was disappointed that they were in B&W (I now love the B&W!). So I ended up buying 2087, figuring I might as well start at the beginning. I don't think I rolled a card until a couple of years later. I found the added complexity intimidating. I ended up buying one of the cool color "Best of Filsinger Games" LOW sets (I don't think they make them anymore), and got a nice little basic "ladder" based fed going with that. I just kept track of standings via how the cards were stacked in the envelope they came in. I left the envelope near my work desk so I could roll a few matches whenever I was in the mood, and *this* was what hooked me.
So I got back to 2087, and started a basic spreadsheet to record cards, records, and injuries. I am about half a year in now, and only roll a few cards a month usually, but I look forward to it immensely. The big downside to doing it this way is that you are both well behind the current storyline, and that the old sets from 2088 onwards are pretty much OOP, and never coming back. I bought the color version of 2088, but I was dreading doing the "Wizard of Oz" switch. I ended up finding used copies of 2088 and 2090, so I will move up to those once my first year is done.
In short, you need to decide what you want out of COTG. I have bought some of the recent stuff, and plan on running a modern fed as well at some point. I still run my initial LOW "Ladder" fed, which is very much like a "shoot" sports league, without a lot of razzmatazz. I am fine with my 2087 Fed going at my pace, and I love the innocent simplicity in those early cards. I have no issue "living there" for a while, and even if "finishing" 2087 takes me more than an actual year, that's fine. If you want to be current, grab 2125 and dig in. You still have a few years to catch up, but it's very doable. If you just want a taste of a "Best Of", grab the Tournament of Champions and go from there.
Alternatively, if you want the ability to follow current continuity, but want the experience of playing from the beginning, you could try FTR, Centra, or Kronos, which are all alternate leagues, and are quite easy to get into and follow.

The scoring system isn't really explored until 2126, but for the most part, it's an up to you style of thing. However, there is one product I absolutely recommend getting even if you are exclusively going to be playing COTG, and that's Legends Expansion II. The reason being that it's the only legal way to get access to the Gang Interference Chart, which is used on the Dark Menace's playing card. I remember not having it for a while, and I had to improvise on it (not exactly a fun time).
