Eddie Gilbert and Great Muta had a series of these matches back in 1989. I cannot recall what was special about them. Was the Kendo Stick legal or was this some other gimmick?

That was, I believe, a Gary Hart invention that he first gave Kabuki. The kendo stick is put in the middle of the ring and the participants start in opposite corners. The first one to get to the stick gets to use it. Not really as cool as the name makes it seem, almost a take on the coal miner's glove match.

I believe Muta also had at least one of these with Sting over the TV Title, with Sting insisting on calling it a "Dragon tough" match, because "shi" sounded sissy or something.

The match was also only won by KO or countout. I'm not sure if there was one stick in the middle of the ring or both participants were armed with them. JR seemed to imply it was the latter at Clash VII.

Thanks for all the responses as I do believe there was a match on TV. Unsure if it what was described with Sting or a demo but it does jog a memory. Sounds like we can use the Singapore Cane or Coal Miners as a reasonable sub.

Yeah, for sure either one could do the trick depending on how you want to present the match. Now I really wish we had an official Kabuki card so I could run one of these between him and Jimmy Valiant. Anyone with a great bootleg card of Kabuki, platonically slide into the DMs.
