I think the team that needs to be moved the most is the Minnesota Timberwolves. It is silly having them in the Northwest Division. They are a much better fit geographically in the Central Division with teams like Detroit, Milwaukee, Chicago, and Indiana.

As the NBA is currently hosting its annual NBA Summer League here in Las Vegas (and some of the games have completely sold out UNLV's Thomas and Mack which is impressive,) NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said the NBA has indeed been looking to expand for awhile but two things had to happen first: 1) the NBA needed to complete a new CBA with the NBA Players Association. That actually occurred earlier this year so now only 2) below has to happen. 2) The NBA needs to complete a new media deal after its current media deal expires after the 2024-2025 season. Silver said that they can reach a new media deal prior to that time as the NBA has an exclusive negotiation period with its current broadcast partners in the Spring of 2024. I will be surprised if the new expansion teams are not Seattle and Las Vegas, but I will be thrilled if at least one of the cities gets a team. Silver yesterday did tell the Associated Press that Las Vegas is on the NBA's radar and he mentioned how the NBA "already has a huge footprint here" with the annual NBA Summer League and now the Finals of the upcoming new NBA in-season tournament. Now that Seattle has the arena situation sorted out it seems like a no-brainer for them to get a team. If I'm not mistaken the inability to get a new arena was the primary reason the Super Sonics picked up and left town. If Seattle does get a team they need to bring back that Sonics nickname.

If I'm not mistaken the inability to get a new arena was the primary reason the Super Sonics picked up and left town. If Seattle does get a team they need to bring back that Sonics nickname. well that arena issue was a pretext, Key Arena had just opened less than 15 years before they left the Sonics left town because their former owner Howard Schultz was a dumba*s who sold the team to someone from Oklahoma City and reacted with surprise when the new ownership moved the team to Oklahoma City. The new owners demanded a new stadium and made many unreasonable demands and only gave the city one year before moving the team away. It often takes more than 1 year to finalize plans for a new stadium and the 1 year ultimatum Seattle received is definitely a very different situation than in Oakland from where the Raiders and As had spent many years trying to secure new stadiums in the Bay Area before leaving town. There is a good video on this topic called Sonics Gate that can be seen on You Tube. But yeah, if Seattle gets an NBA expansion team it will be called the Sonics. The owners of the team in Oklahoma City agreed to leave the Sonics name, colors, and history behind in return for getting out of their lease at Key Arena a few years early.

Seattle and Vegas are the logical/reasonable choices. It's clear Adam Silver wants to put a team in Mexico City, so that has to be the dark horse. Other distant possibilities like Kansas City, Montreal, and Northern Virginia will probably get a courtesy look.
