Loving the wild & wooly action...hate to see Curry and Steele departing, but that is the nature of the beast. Valiants and Vachons always a party....Go Hugh...great stuff!

Some truly exceptional Ringside fun as we prepare for the next big card taking place in Delhi... No matter how many times I see it, I'm still amazed that Costa has cracked the Top 10... Especially with the talent on this roster. The Valiants appear to be making enemies with everyone that crosses their path... Backlund & Londos... The Vachons... And let's not forget that their botched ambush probably pissed off the Hangmen as well... Yikes! A little surprised that Hodge and The Destroyer couldn't deliver a bit more than a one-star match... Maybe they were pressed for time... Would love to see these two lock horns again on a bigger stage. Keep those dice hot, my friend... Love that Maple Leaf Wrestling! Thanks for the comments! Costa has been on a mid card run for sure but I suspect that this may be the last time he cracks the top ten. The departure of ranked contenders George Steele & Bull Curry opened up the top ten more than usual. The Valiant Brothers are truly stirring the pot right now and you can expect to see showdowns between the Valiant Brothers and all three of those teams in the near future. I would not at all surprised to see the gold around their waste before the next Ringside show. Hodge and Destroyer was a big disappointment for me as well. If Hodge had pulled out the victory, he would have been kept on the roster and booked into the Title Match at the next Maple Leaf Gardens show. The dice had other plans.

Loving the wild & wooly action...hate to see Curry and Steele departing, but that is the nature of the beast. Valiants and Vachons always a party....Go Hugh...great stuff! Thanks for the feeback! I am looking forward to the Valiants challenging the Vachons for the gold! Moving Steele and Curry on was a difficult decision. If Curry had won the blow off at the Gardens, I was going to put him the Title Match at the next Maple Leaf Gardens show and transition him to a feud with Abdullah The Butcher as well. Steele took the win. Creative had nothing for them so decided to shake up the roster. Ended up with three heel selections from my roster roll which has upset my roster balance but that is fun of this game. You never know what the dice are going to give you!

Card 017 – Delhi Arena, Delhi
Henry Irslinger v. “Terrible Turk” Yusuf Ismail Referee: Dick Woehrle; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside; Vintage Charts Ismail uses his size to push around his opponent early on but Irslinger uses a series of ankle picks to frustrate Ismail and we have a match. Things go to the floor as Ismail manages to shift his weight and lands onto of Irslinger awkwardly. Irslinger is nearly counted out and Yusuf gains control again. Twice Yusuf catches Irslinger with a leg whip as he attempts to step back into the ring and Worehrle is finally frustrated with the lack of sportsmanship that he disqualified Yusuf. Winner: Henry Irslinger by disqualification. *
Jerry Brisco v. Alexis Smirnoff Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Brisco gains the upper hand with takedowns and Smirnoff bails to thinks things over but Brisco has other ideas and follows. Dr. Mike Lano becomes a human foreign object when he is shoved into Brisco. Back inside, a HEART PUNCH lands but Brisco somehow kicks out. Smirnoff roughs up Brisco outside and then puts him away with a second HEART PUNCH. Winner: Alexis Smirnoff DUD
Angelo Poffo v. Gorilla Monsoon Referee: Joey Marella; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Poffo looked very small in the ring tonight as the giant man from Manchuria made his in ring debut. Poffo used every trick in the book in this rulebreaker battle and managed to have his moments. The turning point came when Monsoon smashed Poffo with one of Dr. Mike Lano’s cameras. Poffo never recovered and Monsoon crushed him twice off the second buckle with deathjumps before getting the submission with a bear hug. Winner: Gorilla Monsoon. **
Bruiser Costa & Frank Dalton v. Sam Houston & Barry Windham Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Dollar has strict instructions for both teams before the bell. Dalton and Costa have some early success against Houston but with Windham hot tags in, thing turn around as Windham dominates Costa and uses a sleeper to set up a LARIAT for the three count. Winners: Barry Windham & Sam Houston. *
Konnan v. “Playboy” Buddy Rose Referee: Joey Marella; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Rose was all over the fans before the bell earning great heat. This was a fun back and forth encounter. There was a great spot where Rose claimed to the fans he was the best light heavy weight in the world as he climbed to the top only to miss his moonsault. Konnan then immediately showed him how it was done. Neither man could get the other in position to go for the win before Rose showed his frustration and smashed a chair into Konnan’s mid section.. Marella quickly made the disqualification call as the fans booed Rose out of the arena. Winner: Konnan by disqualification. **
Abdullah The Butcher w/Shawn Daivari v. Hugh Morrus Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Dollar orders that Daviari leave ringside before the bell and the fans love it. Butcher controls early and earns some heat when he stands on Morrus. Morrus comes back with a tackle rebounded off the ropes that topples Butcher. Morrus rocks the fans and the ring with a power slam that forces the action to the floor. Morrus is game for a brawl on the floor but Butcher pulls out a fork. Morrus sees the weapon and wrestles it from Butcher and with the fans cheering, he uses Butcher’s own foreign object against him. Dollar calls for the disqualification as both men continue to lock horns on the floor as the locker room empties for a pull apart. Winner: Abdullah The Butcher by disqualification. *
Bob Backlund, Jim Londos & Jimmy Snuka v. Don Muraco & The Valiant Brothers (“Handsome” Jimmy Valiant & “Luscious” Johnny Valiant) w/Captain Lou Albano Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Londos and “Handsome” Jimmy start off with counters before Snuka takes over. The Superfly looks to have a possible pin after a backbreaker but Johnny Valiant makes the save and the action continues. Jimmy Valiant manages to drag Snuka to the floor and runs him into the post busting the Superfly open. The fans are frantic as Muraco steps him and uses his Asiatic Spike as the blood flows down Snuka’s face. Backlund hot tags in but Muraco regains control and plants him with a HAWAIIAN HAMMER. Backlund gets the shoulder up but a second finisher from Muraco ends it. Winners: Don Muraco & The Valiant Brothers. ***

Even against an unorthodox competitor like Hugh Morrus, I must admit that it's entertaining anytime Abdullah walks away with a DQ decision in his favor... Of course, Abdullah can be viewed as the instigator of that exchange... But, I suppose a win is a win.
The main event delivered some fun back and forth action... Securing a win over Backlund, Londos & Snuka is a might fine feather in the collective caps of Muraco & the Valiants... Another excellent show!

I really enjoyed the recent offerings, especially the major success for Don Muraco and the Valiant Brothers over equally high-level competition like Backlund, Londos and Snuka. That Bull Curry vs. George Steele match in the cage was epic.
Bruiser Costa over Jerry Brisco! Wow, Brisco has been having rough luck this far. At the same time, seeing Costa somewhat overachieve is great fun.

Card 018 – London Gardens, London, ON
Valiant Brothers (“Handsome” Jimmy Valiant & “Luscious” Johnny Valiant) w/Captain Lou Albano v. Texas Hangmen (Psycho & Killer) Referee: Dick Woerhle; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside This was a tag team classic. Both sides displayed their double teaming attack but the real story was the key defensive tags made throughout this lengthy battle that kept the momentum going back and forth. Pin saves after a DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE and a SPINNING NECKBREAKER Psycho from being pinned. The Hangmen batted back and were in control late in the action. Outside, “Handsome” Jimmy runs Psycho into the ring post shoulder first. Back in the ring, the Valiant Brothers combine for a SUPER ELBOW and that is it. Winner: Valiant Brothers ****
J.J. Dillon v. Barry Windham Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside There were just too many weapons in the toolbelt of Windham tonight who countered everything Dillon had early. Both men went for a clothesline and collided together in the middle of the ring. Windham was up first and the LARIAT finished it. Winner: Barry Windham DUD
Henry Irslinger v. The Spoiler Referee: Morgan Dollar, Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Irslinger has the crowd behind him and Spoiler is anything but pleased. Winner: Henry Irslinger by disqualification. DUD
Konnan v. “Playboy” Buddy Rose Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Rose has the fans all over him and he responds with violence using a chair to bloody Konnan during two separate assaults on the floor. Texas Death Match – Don Muraco w/Captain Lou Albano v. Jimmy Snuka Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside The fans were psyched for this one and a fired up Snuka looked like he would tear apart Muraco early on but things went sideways for the Superfly when he attempted to splash Muraco through a table. Muraco moved and Snuka crashed through the table! Muraco methodically dismantled the Superfly after that including several chair shots and an Asiatic Spike. Snuka actually popped the fans with a kick out after a HAWAIIAN HAMMER but Snuka had nothing left in the tank and a suplex assortment gets the three count. Winner: Don Muraco ***
Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) w/Jim Cornette v. Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) Referee: James Beard; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside The Express came out strong and cut off Bobby Eaton with some double teaming and quick tags. Winner: Midnight Express **
Canadian Heavyweight Title Match – The Destroyer [ch] v. Sam Houston Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Dollar has strict instructions for both competitors. There was great pace to this one and Houston went move for move with the champion. Destroyer stopped his challenger with a clothesline in the corner. Muraco put over against Snuka once again... Is the Magnificent One being pushed toward a title shot against The Destroyer? The upcoming cage match between him and Superfly should really tell the tale.
The Valiants have been gaining some serious momentum and I think the Vachons are gonna have to pull out all the stops if they want to hang onto the tag straps... And yeah, I'm stoked for Abdullah vs. Morrus in a Texas Death match... Bring it on!

Card 019 – Memorial Auditorium, Kitchener, Ontario
Jerry Brisco v. Disco Inferno Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Brisco uses a monkey flip to send Inferno to the mat early and then follows with an Oklahoma side roll for the three count in just two moves!. Winner: Jerry Brisco DUD
Konnan v. Gorilla Monsoon Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside. Dollar has strict instructions for both competitors before the bell. Konnan has the fans behind him and his response is nothing short of amazing as Konnan dominates the early action with all of his classic offense leading to a NIAGARA DRIVER that nearly collapses the ring. Monsoon makes his comeback after bouncing Konnan’s skull off the ringside table. It is a beat down after that but Konnan somehow kicks out after a MANCHURIAN LANDSLIDE and the action continues. It is back and forth before the action spills back to the floor and a frustrated Monsoon cracks Konnan with a chair and is disqualified. Winner by disqualification: Konnan. ***
Jim Londos v. Alexis Smirnoff Referee: Morgan Dollar, Dr. Mike Lano at ringside This was an absolute clinic by Londos who survived some early face slaps and boots to the face to come back and dominated his opponent with a near perfect display of science and skill. Smirnoff may have made the ropes to escape a BOSTON CRAB but Londos never lost focus and was rewarded with a victory after a crotch lift and slam. Winner: Jim Londos * ½
Best of Three Falls Match – Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) w/Jim Cornette v. Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) Referee: Dick Woehrle; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside The first fall ends after only four moves in a shocker when Lane catches Morton with a double-arm suplex for the three count [snake eyes!]. Lane and Eaton keep the heat on Morton who barely kicks out after a spinning neckbreaker. Gibson jumps in for the save after a VEG-O-MATIC but is blocked. However, Morton gets the shoulder up at the last second. The Express continue to control but Gibson finally gets the hot tag and the momentum begins to turn. Gibson is soon in trouble as well after a Double Goozle. Morton gets back into the action and is on fire downing Lane for a huge near fall after a CROSS BODY BLOCK. A top rope punch nearly ends it as well. It is back and forth now and the fans are frantic for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express to even it up. Lane is out on his feet at ringside as Morton comes out after him. Cornette tosses Lane his racket but Morton takes it from Lane and smashes him with the weapon. Woehrle won’t stand for it and makes the call. The Midnight Express take this one in two straight: Winners: Midnight Express 2-0. ****
Bob Backlund v. “Terrible Turk” Yusuf Ismail Referee: James Beard; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside; Vintage Charts This was an interesting encounter as both men struggled to get the upper hand early on. Backlund was able to break through and took control with his mat skills. Ismail powered back and uses a body scissors as an effective weapon actually forcing Backlund to reach for the ropes. Backlund rocked Ismail with a nasty looking piledriver that picked up a 2 ¾ count. This one ended up on the floor where Backlund was able to switch his wait as both men tumbled out. Ismail landed awkwardly on his leg and could not regain the ring before the ten count. Winner by count-out Bob Backlund. ** ½
Texas Death Match – Abdullah The Butcher w/Shawn Daivari v. Hugh Morrus Referee: James Beard; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Butcher did not wait for the ring announcements to finish before going on the attack. Morrus came back quickly but as soon as Butcher took the action outside, he was in his element and the attack was relentless. A smash with a trash can was followed by choke with a cord and then a chair smash for good measure. Morrus was able to regain the ring but Butcher brought a chair in and smashed Morrus again and again before hitting the SUDANESE MEAT CLEAVER for the victory. Winner: Abdullah The Butcher **

The fans were surprized as both teams settled into a defensive pattern with plenty of tags in and out. The tension built and it was the Valiant Brothers who struck first catching Mad Dog Vachon with a DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE that nearly ended it. The action settle back down again and the Vachons nearly retained the titles after a double foot stomp from Mad Dog onto “Handsome” Jimmy. The action began to pick up and go back and forth. The fight spilled outside and Jimmy Valiant decked Mad Dog Vachon with one of the Tag Team Title belts. Vachon was laid out on the floor and Dollar called for the disqualification. Winners: Vachons by disqualification – *** Title Defense V.3.
