The Midnighters (who have finally started to perform in my Legends fed) secure a huge win, but their rivalry with the RnR Express appears to be far from over.
Thoroughly enjoyed Konnan vs. Monsoon, despite the DQ finish... And I'm also very eager to find out the identity of Abdullah's next victim *ahem*... I mean opponent, of course... Fun times!

Card 020 – Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, ON
Jim Brunzell v. Frank Dalton Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside This turned out of be a barn burner of the match that went back and forth from the outset. Brunzell gained the advantage with his speed and landed a KILLER DROPKICK but could not get the pin. It would be first of several times that Brunzell hit his finisher before the match was over. Dalton was able to get his shots in including slams and guillotine on bottom ropes. Brunzell kicked out of Dalton’s ATOMIC DROP and the action continued. The finish came after a back and forth flurry that ended with an ATOMIC DROP. Brunzell kicked out but Dalton hit his finisher for the fourth time and took the victory. Winner: Frank Dalton **** ½ Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) v. Texas Hangmen (Killer & Psycho) Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Back to back hot matches to kick off the night as both of these teams clearly had something to prove. It was classic power v. speed. The Hangmen used plenty of double teaming to take over the match. At one point, the Hangmen regained control with an illegal switch. Despite their size advantage, the Hangmen were never able to get either of the Express in a position to get a pin and it was Ricky Morton who rolled up Killer in the corner after a missed charge to the buckles for a big near fall. A CROSS BODY BLOCK followed for the win. Winners: Rock ‘n’ Roll Express. ***
Henry Irslinger v. “Terrible Turk” Yusuf Ismail Referee: Joey Marella; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Irslinger matched Ismail hold for hold until Ismail managed to toss Irslinger to the floor. Back in the ring, Ismail used a neck wrencher to soften up Irslinger before applying his controversial STRANGLEHOLD for the win. Winner: Yusuf Ismail *
Konnan v. Gorilla Monsoon Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Monsoon gets under the skin of the official before the bell. Monsoon foul mood continued after the bell and he was able to absorb all of Konnan’s offense and dropped him with overhead chops. Konnan was reeling and Monsoon him away with a MANCHURIAN LANDSLIDE. Winner: Gorilla Monsoon DUD
Bob Backlund & Jim Londos v. Valiant Brothers (“Handsome” Jimmy Valiant & “Luscious” Johnny Valiant) w/Captain Lou Albano Referee: James Beard; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Backlund & Londos dominated this one from the open bell with Londos taking on both Valiant Brothers including fireman carry slams and crotch lift & slams to “Luscious” Johnny for near falls. Only the timely interference of Albano keeps the action going after Backlund traps Johnny Valiant in a CROSSFACE CHICKEN WING. The Valiants have a brief offensive run but it is short lived and Londos uses a simple grinding armbar to get the submission on Johnny Valiant. Winners: Bob Backlund & Jim Londos * ½

Winners and New Canadian Open Tag Team Champions: Midnight Express. * ½
Canadian Heavyweight Title Match – The Destroyer [ch] v. Barry Windham Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Windham took control early on and Destroyer had to slip to the floor to think things over but Windham came out after him starting a wild brawl while Lano captured the action. Back in the ring, it was a back and forth battle. Windham managed to bounce out of the corner with a clothesline that rocked the champion and lead to a LARIAT for a huge near fall. Destroyer was in serious trouble but managed to roll through a deathjump cross body attempt from Windham and with the hook of the tights nearly ended it. Destroyer landed a Bombs Away that did some significant damage. The support of the fans fired up Windham for a comeback including a lengthy figure four leglock on the champion. Destroyer countered a backdrop late with a nasty looking piledriver that stunned Windham in the middle of the ring. Destroyer quickly applied his FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK and Windham could not escape. Winner: The Destroyer – title defense V.5 ****. Steel Cage Match – Don Muraco w/Captain Lou Albano v. Jimmy Snuka Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Dollar is quick to order Albano to the back and the fans love it. Snuka is like a wild animal and Muraco tastes the steel early and often, quickly becoming a bloody mess. Muraco can get nothing going early as Snuka lands chops, head butts and backbreakers in addition to running Muraco into the cage again and again. Muraco finally has an opening but his charge to the corner is met with a backdrop that sends Muraco flipping into the cage wall again. Flying head butt lands and then Snuka climbs the cage wall for a SUPERFLY LEAP from the corner of the cage for one sided victory! Winner: Jimmy Snuka. **
News and Views • Congratulations to Midnight Express who are the new Canadian Open Tag Team Champions after a dominating outing tonight to capture the titles. The Vachons will not have to wait long for their return match as the two teams will clash again at the Brantford Civic Centre (Card 22) • Despite owning Jimmy Snuka in recent outings, Don Muraco was absolutely destroyer tonight in his steel cage encounter with the Superfly. Muraco’s manger Captain Lou Albano was quick to claim that Morgan Dollar overstepped his authority by forcing Albano from ringside given the steel cage stipulation so it remains to be seen whether or not things are settled between these to competitors. • Destroyer continues to turn back challenger after challenger as Canadian Heavyweight Champion. Jimmy Snuka’s victory tonight has pushed him to the top of the contender’s list and the Superfly will challenge Destroyer for the gold at the Oshawa Civic Auditorium (Card 23). • Jim Brunzell made his debut tonight in losing effort against Frank Dalton. The bout was originally scheduled to be a tag team encounter featuring the Killer Bees against Dalton and Bruiser Costa but Brunzell’s partner B. Brian Blair encounter travel difficulties and could not make the show. The Bees will make their tag team debut as part of the upcoming Ringside Taping in Hamilton (Card 21) instead • The Texas Hangmen have departed the territory after tonight’s action and will be heading to the Mid West to compete. Also leaving for the Mid-West is Alexis Smirnoff. • It was announced after the card tonight that Hugh Morrus has departed the territory as well. With several roster spots open, that means we can expect to see several new competitors in the territory in the coming cards. • Already announced for the upcoming Ringside Tapings (Card 21) will be Canadian Heavyweight Champion The Destroyer taking on Konnan in non-title action. Also in non title action, Rock ‘n’ Roll Express will face their rivals and Canadian Open Tag Team Champions Midnight Express.

Looks like your steel cage encounter between Snuka and Muraco played out in a very similar manner to my own... Despite being somewhat one-sided, the performance of Superfly still made it exciting for the audience.
As much as I enjoyed the Vachons as tag champs, I'm looking forward to watching MX carry the gold for awhile... And it lends an interesting dynamic to their ongoing feud with the Rock n' Rollers.
Fun times, my friend... As always!

The action at MLG was awesome as usual save for Jimmy Snuka beating Don Muraco in the Steel Cage match. Ok, the match was fun but as a big Muraco fan I don't enjoy seeing him lose to Snuka lol. The same recently happened in Pariah's LCW so it looks like Snuka is chalking up some big wins.
Congrats to the Midnight Express coming off an epic bout with the Rock n' Roll Express and going on to win the Canadian Open Tag Titles from the Vachon's. The tag team action in MLW is always top notch.
The Destroyer looking good on top as the Canadian champion after that great version five title defense against Barry Windham. It will be really interesting to see if the masked man can turn back his next challenge from the "Superfly".

Barry Windham Referee: Dick Woehrle; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Windham dominated the match with his size and speed but Poffo proved difficult to put away as he survived a pair of SWEETWATER SUPLEXES. This one ended in controversy. As Woehrle was pushing back Windham from the ropes with Poffo on the floor for a breather, Dr. Mike Lano moved in for a close up shot of Poffo when his flashbulb exploded sending sparks into the face of Poffo. Windham and Woehrle did not see this occur and Windham was able to toss Poffo back into the ring for the three count. Winner: Barry Windham * ½
Abdullah The Butcher & Gorilla Monsoon w/Shawn Daivari v. Killer Bees Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Dollar has words with Daivari before the bell and sends the manager to the back much to the delight of the fans. This was true battle of power and brutality vs. speed and skill. The Bees used plenty of double teaming and quick tags to keep the momentum in their favour and to keep Monsoon in the ring. Twice a double team backdrop took Monsoon off his feet and the fans out of their seats. A KILLER DROPKICK did not get the pin however and Butcher was able to finally get into the match. Brunzell took a beating including a foreign object to the throat that earned Butcher huge heat. A hot tag turned the momentum back in favour of the Bees. Monsoon tagged back into the match and was quickly overwhelmed again but the double teaming and quick tags of the Bees. The finish came when Brunzell ducked under a clothesline from Monsoon rebounded off the ropes for another duck under and rebound which lead to an inside cradle for a two and half count. Monsoon regained his feet but Brunzell was ready with a deathjump cross body block for the victory. Winner: Killer Bees *** ½
Henry Irslinger v. “Terrible Turk” Yusuf Ismail Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside, Vintage Charts Given the history of disqualification finishes between these to competitors, Morgan Dollar has strict instructions for both men. This was another intense and grinding affair between these two competitors that could have gone either way early on. Ismail began to dominate with his power but Irslinger was able to counter and use a series of toeholds that had Ismail reeling. The action turned when Irslinger was knocked the floor and struck his head on the floor! Irslinger managed to regain the ring before the ten count but he was never really back into the match from that point. Ismail took him apart focusing a lot of offense on Irslinger’s face earning the rath of the fans. A series of knee wrenchers left Irslinger essentially immobile and a STRANGLEHOLD finished it. Winner: Yusuf Ismail *** ½ Bob Backlund v. Don Muraco w/Captain Lou Albano Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Albano and Muraco share their opinion with the official before the bell and Dollar looks anything but impressed. Albano works the fans and they respond with a Beach Bum chant. Backlund and Muraco put on a clinic of counters and exchanges as the momentum goes back and forth. Muraco gets control with a series of suplexes and an over the shoulder backbreaker but cannot get the three count after a HAWAIIAN HAMMER. Backlund draws on the fans support and mounts an impressive comeback with his own suplexes, forearms and headscissors all of which lead to near falls. Backlund finally connects with his ATOMIC DROP finisher but Albano is able to cause a distraction to keep the action going. Backlund keeps his focus and dominates the remainder of the match even getting the best of Muraco during a brawl on the floor before another ATOMIC DROP ends it. Winner: Bob Backlund ***
Canadian Open Tag Team Title Match – Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) w/Jim Cornette v. Vachons (Butcher Vachon & Mad Dog Vachon) Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Dollar has strict instructions for both sides before the bell. The Express set the pace early with quick tags but the Vachons soon showed their own experience as a tag team as the action went back and forth. Mad Dog Vachon found himself on the wrong side of the ring and the Express when to work including a Double Goozle and then a FLAPJACK for a near fall. Mad Dog was able to get the tag and Butcher Vachon was able to get some momentum back. It was back and forth with both teams making tags in and out until The Vachons caught Lane with a QUADRUPLE FOOT STOMP and Mad Dog Vachon covered Lane for the pin to become two time Canadian Open Tag Team Champions! Winners and New Canadian Open Tag Team Champions: Vachons ** 1/2
News and Views: • Congratulations are in order for the Mad Dog and Butcher Vachon who regained the Canadian Open Tag Team Titles from the Midnight Express in a shocking finish to another exciting night of action in Brantford. This is first title change outside of Maple Leaf Gardens. Jim Cornette was quick to lobby for a return match for the titles but the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express already have the next title opportunity that will main event the upcoming Guelph Memorial Gardens (Card 24). As a result, Teddy Long has decided that the Midnight Express will be the challengers for the Canadian Open Tag Team Titles as part of the upcoming Toronto Maple Leaf Gardens event (Card 25) against the winner of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express – Vachons Title encounter in Guelph. • Many fans were concerned about the wellbeing of Henry Irslinger after his brutal battle with Yusuf Ismail tonight and Commissioner Teddy Long assured everyone that Irslinger was under excellent medical care and it was his information that no injuries were sustained. Long let everyone know that Irslinger was certainly well enough to demand another match with the “Terrible Turk” and that match will be a best of three falls encounter as part of the upcoming Maple Leaf Gardens show in Toronto • The opening tag match tonight was a fun competitive bout that had the fans on the edge of their seats. As a result, Commissioner Teddy Long has signed a rematch between the teams of Bruiser Costa & Frank Dalton and the pairing of Jerry Brisco & Billy Red Lyons for the upcoming card at the Guelph Memorial Gardens. • Jimmy Snuka barely spent any time in the ring tonight on route to an impressive victor over Disco Inferno building some momentum for his title opportunity against Canadian Heavyweight Champion The Destroyer at the Oshawa Civic Auditorium (Card 23) • Shawn Daivari was not happy after tonight’s event calling out Morgan Dollar for removing him from ringside and then stating that official allowed the Bees to cheat multiple times during the match (while avoiding questions about the tactics of Abdullah The Butcher of course!). Commissioner Teddy Long interrupted the proceeding and scheduled an immediate rematch for the Oshawa Civic Auditorium Card • Angelo Poffo was assessed and cleared by medical staff after the action tonight and has demanded a return match with Barry Windham. After hearing what had happened at ringside, Windham was more than happy to agree to the rematch and the bout has been signed for part of the event at the Oshawa Civic Auditorium. • Bob Backlund picked up a fan pleasing victory over Don Muraco tonight and the two will on opposite sides for the ring again in Oshawa when Muraco joins forces with The Valiant Brothers to take on the Backlund and The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express in what should be an explosive six man tag team battle • Commissioner Teddy Long has signed a battle of top ten contenders for Oshawa as Konnan will be looking to test his skills when he takes on Jim Londos.
