Loved listening to a quick overview of GAB!! Weird that the “Booker Man” was in the main event…go figure!
I agree with what the four of you stated about the selling of FG cards…also, what was said on the other show about not mistaking worth with what is bid on the charity auction…

The Great American Bash...As a west coaster with limited funds I had to wait until the "Apter Mags" had the recap to find out what went down...boy how times have changed!
(I didn't even get to buy the magazine, I had to read it at the magazine stand in the grocery store as my mom would not let me spend "money on that stuff".
Another Fine Episode UT Team! Keep it up!

Flair was essentially a babyface in the Mid-Atlantic area and on syndicated JCP TV, and a heel on TBS. The Nikita feud did get some play on cable, but mostly on TBS he concentrated on Magnum and Dusty and Ron Garvin, while in actual Crockett towns he was concentrating on Nikita, Buddy Landel, and heel Wahoo, and even teaming up with Dusty on occasion. (Also, '85 was the last real year of the true traveling NWA Champion as he was hitting Portland, Florida, All-Japan, Central States, World Class, and Alabama all fairly regularly and not always working for Crockett.)
The breaking of Dusty's leg in the Omni on 9/29 solidified Flair as a full-on heel all across the territory. By that point, the Atlanta and Mid-Atlantic TVs essentially got unified and Flair became, in the oft-repeated words of Jerry Lawler, a "company champion."
And yes, Dusty winning the TV Title in a "non-sanctioned match" *and* having the TV title main event over the World title was just patently absurd, cage or no cage. Crockett probably needed Dusty's reach-for-the-stars booking approach if he really wanted to go national, but attention to detail was not one of the Dream's strong points as a booker. All that said...this may be a hot take, but I think Tully was a better opponent for Dusty than Flair.
(Also, as someone who had one of the worst cases of hives ever because of an allergic reaction to penicillin, I say f*** Alexander Fleming and his stupid scientific advances.)

Or I should say, I felt your pain, as I was found to be allergic to penicillin at a young age. I believe I had a similar hive reaction but I don't remember.

Nice recap of Great American Bash '85. It really is astonishing how Rhodes managed to make himself the main event over the world champion by going the "unsanctioned match" route and yet still made it a title switch. The tone of Mid Atlantic really started to change in 1984 when Rhodes started booking and by 85 he was at the height of his booking powers with stunts like that. Don't get me wrong, the territory really got more exciting after the funk they were in late 83, but it was very clear who the only one "allowed" to be the top babyface was. Also interesting discussion about online discourse and "anti-social media". I agree wholeheartedly that what people sell and what people pay for it is between them. One man's trash, and all that. It also made me check myself "have I unintentionally been an a-hole anywhere since I came back out of social media hiding?" Sometimes I can't tell....it's funny to me but other people get offended....also, don't drink and message board. Ever. Nothing good comes of that. It is frustrating when the trash talkers are like a continent away. Notice it's never Bob from down the street popping off? That's because he doesn't want that knock on the door at 1AM from someone looking to collect on that check his keyboard wrote and his butt can't cash! (people under 30, you may need to google "what does 'write a check mean'?") Also, great callback to the great "Man Of Power" Cowboy Bob Orton debate. If Mark Henry has -1 power then maybe Bob's should be 0 after all..... Hulk who?

Listened to the whole episode this week. Disappointed with the lack of blow up doll jokes, but I enjoyed the rest. Final segment was strong.
