First of all, little known fact: you get more jacked listening to podcasts in the gym than by listening to music. So I was listening to the episode in the gym this morning. Because of course I was.
Second fact: it is NOT a good idea to be holding heavy dumbbells when talk of the FABULOUS CLAM breaks out. Almost caused a catastrophe.
As far as my "recreations" of several undercard talents. By this time those of us who started with the first set of 24 had been using some of these guys for several years with no character development, so I had to take things into my own hands. I never made cards for these necessarily, but I did tape new drawings to the fronts of the existing cards and make stat changes by taping pieces of paper with the new moves over the old ones (never writing on the card because I knew at some point I'd regret that).
Adam Blast as the Peacock was my take on Red Rooster obviously. It was basically Adam in pink tie dyed tights and an appropriately feathered theme robe. His top rope clothesline on level 3 became a -3 move, finisher name changed to PEACOCK PLUNGE (Alabama Jam), ring rating became a B, and I dropped one of the down-3 on level 3 defense. Nothing major. He eventually turned again and just became "The Peacock" and I'm pretty sure I ran with some version of that until US Patriot.
Beast-Rider became the savage Beast. Pretty much the same look with wilder hair, black paint smeared under his eyes, and furry Bruiser Brody style boots. Finisher was FLYING BEAST +1 (head butt from the second buckle), deathjump (c) became an uncovered out of the ring (and since he already had the choice H I was making him follow "official" guidelines before we even knew what they were, come to think of it), ring and deathjump ratings both became "b", and I dropped the down-3 on level 2 to hurt-2 and made his PIN 6(3). Again, this one lasted until the Terak card, which worked perfectly as I had him reconcile the two sides of his personality into Terak, The Beast (I honeslty may not have ever called him Beast-Rider again, just Terak).
Killer Queen, feeling he'd lost his edge since he won my initial GWF title tournament in the Deimos Arena, toughened up his image and took on the name of the place where he'd had his greatest success. He became the guy who hung out in the rafters and made things miserable for everyone on his turf. Looks wise I'd say think of Keifer Sutherland as the vampire in Lost Boys, but without the fangs and mullet. Stat wise I didn't change much on him. His atomic drop on level 3 offense became a -3 move, knife edge on level 3 became "Dagger Thrust" (running thrust to the throat), and his power improved to "0". This was eventually reconciled when it was discovered that it was Mesmer messing with his head that caused the character change. At some point he was doing dual personalities where he'd shift mid promo or match until finally reverting back to Killer Queen.
Not mentioned, but revisions I also did: Actagon and Commander Same were the Soldiers Of Fortune when I split up the Greek Gods (just the same two dudes but in camo pants and army boots), Massacre became a hardcore guy before we had the word for it and would carry a toolbox full of weapons to the ring, and Proteus baically became a ripoff of Ultimate Warrior (but again, with the same name and just an attitude/character change).
This has kind of inspired me, really. I may in fact do what Tim said and make some cards for these guys and share the new art here.
Also, I have NO idea why I was on the list of possible attendees for that first Galacticon. Maybe I was talking out of my Fabulous Clam or something. Like, I couldn't even drive then and there was no way I was convincing my parents to drive from Illinois to New York so I could hang out with some "pen pals" (yeah kids, before the rise of the internet we had to write letters back and forth) and people who played the same silly card game.

Super fun show. From the Fabulous Clam to the Mark redone wrestlers. It was a lot of fun.
Still never get how well the Norse did for other promoters.

Galacticon 2023 - CLAM BAKE!!! You bring this up, KB (hope you are well, brother), but speaking of Galacticon 2023, is it too early to nominate Pittsburgh as a potential landing spot? My wife and I just celebrated five years of wedded bliss, and I gotta say it is a terribly underrated city.
