So... I'm kind of late to CHIKARA and kind of bummed out that the fed died during the #ComingOut debacle back in 2021. Anyway, I've started watching from the very first videos they have on IWTV and I love it: the masks, the costumes--I always love my wrestling with a dash of the cinematic! Anyway, I just got the CHIKARA Intro set and I'm trying to classify them into faces/heels as prep for a new fed with some things I wanna try... but it seems the starter set seems to have 3 factions: Tecnicos, Bruderschaft des Kreuzes (BDK), and Rudos? 1. I know in lucha libre, the "tecnicos" are the faces or heroes and the "rudos" are the heels/villains. Is this not true for CHIKARA? 2. Ultramantis Black seems to be with the tecnicos but then his description starts with "Behold the evil genius of Chikara, the maniacal insect overlord UltraMantis Black"... sounds like a shoe-in for a rudo if you ask me. 3. Are the closest "alignment" for BDK, tweeners? Sorry if I'm totally missing the point, I just started watching CHIKARA (only up to the beginning of Season 3) this past weekend  |

You are correct that tecnicos are faces and rudos are heels. BDK was their own rudo group that I believe starts in Season 8. So the BDK are Rudos, but not all Rudos are in the BDK. Ultramantis has done both Rudo and Tecnico, but I believe when this set is based he was on the tecnico side.

You got it about right. As far as Ultramantis, he switched back and forth a few times. The BDK were an invasion angle around season11(?). It was Chikara vs BDK so there were definitely heels. There are others on the board who probably recall all of this better than me but that’s the basics.

Awesome. Thanks tornado & aceldamas! Looking at the roster, lumping the BDK in with the Rudos does make an even split vs. the Tecnicos. |

Actually I believe the first set was 11 and 13 but it works. Plenty of others to add if you wish. The Chikara years were quite fun and sad it ended the way it did.

I added in the Tecnicos and Rudos sets (not counting the newer tecnico-version Sara del Rey) and got an even 17 for both sides. |

There you go. Both fun sets. That reminds me of one more question. The Dark Menace manager card. Which wrestlers is Tom supposed to be managing? I haven't watched any of the later Chikara shows yet. |

I think they just included that for funsies. Far as I know he never managed anyone there but have him manage whoever you like.

Along with watching CHIKARA another place to find some good info is good old Wiki. I knew little of CHIKARA but loved the look and style of the characters so got the set.
