The big differences between Reimagined and Original are the manager charts on the back and the legalization of cards. The weird exception for the latter part seems to be 2093.

I am original guy myself, however I totally get why the reimagined line is necessary (OOP B&W sets GI to 2097; 2099-2100; 2105-2106; & 2119; and to colorize the cards) but still there is just something about Chuck Carter's art, and later, Larry Snelly's art that just seems better in my mind. I am 100% certain it is nostalgia, but that's my preference on it.
Regarding that - if you are a newer player to the game, go with the reimagined sets, because as I noted above, with the OOP B&W sets, you'd have huge gaps to fills (GI to 2097) and then, how would you play?

If your just doing online (which I believe the OP said they were) then you could stick to the original sets since they’re all available in that medium. It would actually be a more consistent experience too since the re-imagined sets (for now anyways) stop at 93.

Know this is a bit of an older thread but this is a potential dilemma. I can play online, I just don't really want to for my own reasons now.. But if I dive into COTG color, then there's sets not in color and who knows if they will ever be updated. The only way you could do it online is like using your Ipad to roll against other physical cards in your collection. A bit cumbersome to say the least
