Damn, Southwest Airlines canceled over 2.600 flights today and has already announced 2,600 canceled flights for tomorrow and the airline today accounted for 86% of all canceled flights in the US.
Although I did not fly on Southwest, I got caught up in this mess when I landed in San Francisco on my flight from Germany. My flight on United was late so I missed my connecting United flight to Las Vegas and I could not get booked on either United's other flight to Las Vegas or on Alaska's 2 flights to Las Vegas that night (United and Alaska apparently work together on these situations) because stranded Southwest passengers bought all the extra seats on those flights. United got me a hotel and some food vouchers (but there was no food at the hotel so I went to IHop across the street and used the vouchers at an airport bar) and I was lucky as they managed to get me a seat on a flight the following evening.
I am glad I am not flying anywhere on Southwest until the middle of January.
