I was about 5 minutes from where this went down. It is an interesting way I first heard of the shooting. I was enjoying my one day off of the week by sitting downtown near Lake Mirror. It is a small man-made lake that locals go to so they can walk or jog around it or like me, look at the ducks, swans and other birds. So, I was there enjoying the sunshine and low 80 temps not thinking about work. I was sitting near the main fire station, and I heard the squawk of a call coming in. Then the dispatcher said there was a call to Hampton Inn (that is where I work and was worried for a moment) and Suites (that is the other Hampton in town so still concerned for them but relieved it was not the one I worked at). I had barely sent a text to my boss to give him a heads up when another call come in. It was for the shooting and at the time it was for 3 victims. I knew the area was near me but not sure exactly where. So, I hit google maps and realized not that far from me at all. It turned out the 3 were on site but other victims took off and ended up going to the hospital on their own. Later when I got home, I watched the 7PM ABC news and the graphic said 9 were shot but as the police chief gave his briefing, he said it was up to 10. Sometime later it hit 11. I knew there were shooting around this place, population is over 100K so you expect it. That happens everywhere. Just nothing this large. Unlike some other mass shootings this one is gang related as they shot out of all four windows while not even stopping the car. That was just part of my weird day yesterday.
