Appalachian Championship Wrestling presents GROUND ZERO, live from the Richmond Coliseum, in Richmond, VA.
Attendance: SOLD OUT
“Hello, and welcome to Appalachian Championship Wrestling’s Ground Zero Super Show! We’re live from the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia! We’ve got an incredible card for you tonight. We’ll see Adorable Adrian Adonis in action. Dillion Enterprises newest acquisition, Nick Bockwinkle is here and will be interviewed by Bill Apter. We’ve got a $5000 challenge match between Big John Studd, and Andre the Giant. If Andre can defeat Studd by pinfall or submission, he’ll win $5000 from Studd. We also have three championship matches. The first is for the ACW Heritage Championship as The Spoiler defends his title against Brad Armstrong. The Spoiler will definitely have his hands full. Armstrong has been chasing gold ever since joining ACW and is thinking that tonight is going to be the payoff. The second title match features Mildred Burke defending the ACW Women’s Championship against Sherri Martel. Burke defeated Martel for the title a month ago, at our last super show. Martel used her rematch clause in her contract and signed that rematch for tonight. Our final championship match is for the ACW Heavyweight Championship as Magnum T.A. challenges ACW Heavyweight Champion, Rick Rude! This rematch will be settled inside a steel cage!! Rude cashed in the Golden Opportunity Contract to capture the ACW Heavyweight Title from Magnum T.A. after Magnum had just won a grueling title match against Blackjack Mulligan. Magnum guaranteed that he’d not only win tonight, but he would walk out the cage door!! Get your popcorn ready, because the action is about to start! Let’s go to the ring for our opening match!!”
Adrian Adonis vs Mike Jackson
Adrian Adonis defeats Mike Jackson by referee stoppage at 2:34, after applying his Goodnight Irene finisher to Jackson.
Match notes: Adonis dominated Jackson early, then shut down what little offense Jackson could get in. After making it to the ropes the first time Adonis applied his finisher, Jackson immediately succumbed when Adonis locked it on a second time.
“Adonis made quick work of Mike Jackson. He’s got his sights set on the ACW Heritage Championship, and is moving towards accomplishing that goal.”
“Up next Jimmy Valiant gets his chance to get some revenge on Tully Blanchard and Dillon Enterprises for the attack they orchestrated two weeks ago, when Barry Windham hit Valiant from behind with a blackjack before Valiant’s match with Blanchard, leading to a Blanchard win.
Jimmy Valiant vs Tully Blanchard with J. J. Dillon
Jimmy Valiant defeats Tully Blanchard by pinfall at 7:41, after hitting his Boogie Woogie Elbow Drop finisher on Blanchard.
Match notes: After attacking Valiant during the ring announcements, Blanchard looked like he was going to be in for a good night. Unfortunately for Blanchard, Valiant had other plans. After taking over on offense, Valiant beat Blanchard from pillar to post, at various times risking disqualification for his actions. Dillon was able to distract Valiant on a pin attempt, but got nailed by Valiant when he tried to interfere on another. Barry Windham also tried to save Blanchard from being pinned, but was taken out by Valiant. Valiant then hit his finisher on Blanchard, securing the win. After the match, Blanchard and Windham attacked Valiant, and beat him down until he was saved by the “Raging Bull” Manny Fernandez. Although the Raging Bull was able to save Valiant, it was too late. Valiant was injured and had to be helped out of the ring by referees and officials.
“Valiant got a measure of revenge against Tully Blanchard and Dillon Enterprises before Barry Windham made it two on one with the beatdown on Valiant. Dillon Enterprises likes using the numbers game against their opponents, and those numbers have grown. Dillon was seen entering ACW home offices with the newly signed Nick Bockwinkle. If I know Jimmy Valiant, and Manny Fernandez, this feud is just getting started.”
“Up next is the $5000 special challenge match between Andre the Giant and Big John Studd. If Andre can pin or submit Studd, he will win the $5000. Studd came up with the challenge a couple of months ago, and no one has been able to defeat Studd and claim the money. Can Andre defeat Studd and win the money? Let’s go to the ring and find out.”
$5000 Challenge Match
Andre the Giant vs Big John Studd
Andre the Giant defeats Big John Studd by count out at 7:56.
Match notes: Andre dominated Studd throughout the match, staying on the offensive for 90 percent of the time. After tossing Studd out of the ring, Andre choke slammed Studd on the floor. Studd was recovering and on his feet by the referee’s count of seven, but chose not to return to the ring, taking the count out instead. Although Andre won the match, he did not win by pinfall or submission, allowing Studd to keep his money.
“Andre wins, but Studd gets to keep the money. Looks like Studd decided that Andre was just too much to deal with, and took the easy way out.”
“Up next is the first of three championship matches. The Spoiler defends his newly won ACW Heritage Championship against number one contender Brad Armstrong. The Spoiler was added to the finals of the tournament to crown the first ever ACW Heritage Champion, making the match a triple threat match. The Spoiler pinned Tracy Smothers to get the win, making Armstrong the number one contender by default. Let’s go back to the ring.”
ACW Heritage Championship
The Spoiler(c) vs Brad Armstrong
Brad Armstrong defeats The Spoiler by pinfall at 7:19, to become the new ACW Heritage Champion, after hitting his Russian Leg Sweep finisher.
Match notes: Armstrong started hot, taking the fight to the Spoiler. The Spoiler fought back, but was out wrestled by Armstrong at every turn. Armstrong finally put the Spoiler away after hitting his second Russian Leg Sweep finisher.
“Armstrong finally scores gold in ACW! He worked really hard to get here, and that hard work paid off!!”
“Up next, Bill Apter interviews the newly signed Nick Bockwinkle with his manager, J.J. Dillon.”
Interview notes: J.J. Dillon starts the interview commenting about how violent Jimmy Valiant behaved during the match earlier tonight with Tully Blanchard, forcing Barry Windham to come in and “save” Blanchard from possible injury. Dillon then introduces Nick Bockwinkle as the newest member of Dillon Enterprises. Bockwinkle points to Apter’s ratings and says that he deserves a title match for the ACW Heavyweight Championship, and that Lieutenant Commissioner Bill Alfonzo agrees. Bockwinkle then warns both Magnum T.A. and Rick Rude that it doesn’t matter who he faces, because the ACW Heavyweight title will belong to him and Dillon Enterprises. Before leaving ringside, J.J. Dillon tells the audience in attendance that Dillon Enterprises will control all the gold in ACW, and everyone knows that he likes to do things in “fours.”
“Bockwinkle has issued the challenge to tonight’s winner. Whoever wins tonight will have their hands full with Bockwinkle and Dillon Enterprises. What did Dillon mean by saying he likes doing everything in “fours?” I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before we find out.”
“Up next, Mildred Burke defends her ACW Women’s Championship against Sherri Martel. The last time these two ladies met, Burke easily won, taking the belt from Martel. Tonight, Martel gets her rematch. Let’s go over to the ring.”
ACW Women’s Championship
Mildred Burke(c) vs Sherri Martel
Sherri Martel defeats Mildred Burke by pinfall at 7:29, after hitting her Top Rope Splash finisher twice on Burke.
Match notes: Martel dominated Burke like Burke dominated Martel the first time they met. Martel hit her finisher back to back getting the easy win on Burke.
“Martel took it to Burke, never letting up, and is now a two time ACW Women’s Champion! I don’t think this will be the last time that these ladies will cross paths for the gold, and I’ll bet that when they meet again, these two competitors will tear the house down.”
“It’s time for our main event of the evening, it is for the ACW Heavyweight Championship, and will take place inside a steel cage! It took Big John Studd’s help for Rick Rude to defeat Magnum T.A. for the belt, so Magnum asked for his rematch to take place in a steel cage to insure that there will be no outside interference from anyone during the match. In order to win the match, one of the competitors must exit the cage by walking out the door, or climbing out of the 12 foot cage. Let’s go back to the ring for our main event.”
ACW Heavyweight Championship
Steel Cage Match
Rick Rude(c) vs Magnum T.A.
Magnum T.A. defeats Rick Rude at 16:42, by exiting the cage door, after hitting his Belly to Belly Suplex finisher.
Match notes: Magnum took Rude’s offense and returned it in spades. Numerous times in the match, Magnum rammed Rude’s face into the cage, busting Rude open. Magnum ran Rude face first into the cage one final time, allowing Magnum to hit a second Belly to Belly Suplex then walked out through the cage door to become the first 2 time ACW Heavyweight Champion.
“Magnum T.A. has done it!! He’s won the ACW Heavyweight Title!! He’s the first ever TWO TIME ACW Heavyweight Champion!! Magnum said that he was going to walk out through the door, and he did it!! Be sure to tune in for Appalachian Championship Wrestling Saturday evening for all the fallout from tonight. I’m Gordon Solie, and we’ll see you all Saturday night at the studio!! Goodnight!!
