They never confirmed it at GCon, it was floated as an "idea" during the Legends panel for the 3rd quarter to fill space between the T&THOF set and the definitely announced "pre-national expansion territories" set. Maybe 2 or 4 cards if it happened was mentioned...but yeah, definitely nothing solid, ever.
People jumped on it and took it to be gospel though, which means they will probably start biting their tongues about "maybe we could do this..." ideas and sets, since this just got silly.

Carl, I was there. It wasn't floated it was confirmed it would be tied to it, in someway. Folks did jump on it as like "hey it has to be honorees" when in reality it could have just been, again, "Guys Tom and the LOW team signed at CAC" or "Guys who were members of CAC."

Just release the Crazy Phil card already! 😄 Only if we can get Mrs. Crazy Phil too!

Hat tip to Grant for finding this, but Tom made this post in May that goes a little beyond speculation. I get that plans change, but while there's been plenty of reckless speculation over potential names and signings and releases (my favorite is still Tom hyping up a LE card for "an obscure footnote in wrestling history" that turned out to be Les Thatcher, with people responding by guessing it was Demolition or Shane McMahon, among others), I don't know if promoters can really be accused of jumping the gun on this.

But, we still have the rest of October to have something released this "cycle" right?

Really all they need is two weeks - week before pre-order one half of the indies names: two women two men; legends one half of the release; COTG 1/2 of the release. The preorder week do the other half and then then the week after do teasers for pro prime. Why draw it out?

It's been the oddest cycle in a long time. Usually the reason to do them early of course is to get people talking and they're doing that in a way by not releasing anything but it's also causing a level of frustration.
My curiosity is if Cycle 4 will actually be out by Christmas or not. They'll definitely be cutting it close.

Just hoping this isn’t a sign of the doors closing. I can wait for new releases or hype. With the way releases were pumping out a few years ago, we had to figure it would slow down after awhile. Less releases in a year is fine, but none would be sad.
