my flight from Frankfurt to Vancouver left an hour late late too otherwise I would have missed it due to the logjam at passport control in Germany. One of the locals in line who traveled frequently for work mentioned to me that this was a regular occurrence. Yeah, last year my connecting flight in Frankfurt from Berlin back to the US was really late and I ended up stranded on Christmas night in San Francisco. But the airline paid for the hotel and gave me enough food money that I ended up having to use the remaining amount on beer at the.airport instead of letting those food credits just go to waste. This year my connecting flight is in Dallas so I am not worried about it, plus I will still have a few days left on Winter Break anyway. Overall I am looking even more forward to my trip to Rome (although I was looking very forward to it) now that I have your posts here.

the schedule for my own trip to Rome in December is being finalized:
Tuesday land in Rome, we are reportedly staying in a 3 bedroom place within walking distance of some signts such as the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain which I will see that night.
Wednesday we have a guided skip the line tour for the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and Palatine Hills
Thursday Vatican City
Friday bus tour ride to Pompeii and back with my dad, we got through Naples, have a scheduled lunch stop for pizza and beer, we go to Mount Vesuvius, and then to Pompeii itself before making the trip back to Rome
Saturday not sure yet
Christmas Eve/Sunday not sure yet other than we are going out somewhere for Christmas Eve dinner in Rome
Christmas/Monday My parents fly to their home in Portugal and I fly home to Las Vegas. I will have about a week here in Sin City until I go back to work the following week.
As a World History teacher, Rome is one of the cities I have most wanted to see and I am looking forward to my trip.

I wonder if they have Christmas markets like in Germany. That might be a fun thing to do on Saturday especially after sundown.

I wonder if they have Christmas markets like in Germany. That might be a fun thing to do on Saturday especially after sundown. My understanding is there are Christmas markets in Rome but they are not as prominent as they are in Germany where they started back during the Medieval Period when Germany was known as the Holy Roman Empire (altough as I tell my stdents it was neither that holy, not Roman, and really not an empire.) I have enjoyed going to the Christmas markets the past two years in Frankfurt and in Berlin, so I will check out at least 1 or 2 in Rome.
