Hi Everyone:
Just at the Vancouver Airport waiting to begin my journey to Rome for a week and a half. I have a 4.5 hour flight to Toronto followed by an 8.5 hour flight to Rome. Managed to grab some breakfast a little while ago but none of the convenience stores at the airport sold the Ultra White Monster so I couldn't get my morning pick-me-up.😡
This will be my first vacation since my trip to The Yukon Territory back in 2019 so I've definitely been looking forward to today. This is also my first time outside of North America so it will definitely be an experience for me. Luckily the weather in Rome is supposed to be beautiful for my entire trip with sunny/partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 25-27 degrees Celsius.
I'm bringing my COTG & SHIMMER cards with me so I can keep up with my Feds. The other night I downloaded a bunch of Family Ties episodes along with a few movies onto my IPad to keep me entertained on the long flight. I also have Brian Blair's book with me as well so that should help pass the time too.
More updates coming soon.

I am actually making my own first-ever trip to Rome in December. My sister teaches in Germany and my parents have a home in Portugal (but partly for tax reasons they still spend large parts of the year in Seattle) so every year I go to Europe for Chrstmas to see my family and this year the destination is Rome. As a World History teacher and as someone who really likes pasta, I am absolutely looking forward to seeing Rome. For the long plane trip there (I fly first to Dallas/Fort Worth,) I will pack my Nintendo Switch along with my cell phone for downloading things such as Uncharted Territories. I will also take at least one book, I am actually also currently reading B. Brian Blair's book (Blair autographed it for me at the CAC last year) but I will probably be reading a different book by December. Beer and sleep will also help pass the time for me. Paul, let us know how your trip is going and any advice you want to give me for my own trip to Rome later this year will be appreciated!

Paul Goes To Rome sounds like a fun movie. I will have to check it out. Hope you have a good time. Rome is one of the best places to go outside of North America.

I have arrived! Woo-hoo. The flights went OK with the exception of my plane from Toronto leaving 45 minutes late. It's currently about 1:30 in the afternoon on Wednesday here in Rome.
Both airplanes had in flight entertainment so I didn't even need to break out my Ipad. I watched "The Pope's Exorcist" with Russell Crowe (It was OK) and "Being Mary Tyler Moore" ( Pretty good but I wish they had spent a bit more time covering her work in Ordinary People which is one of the best movies I've ever seen.) Also re-watched the Johnny Depp version of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory (I seem to be the only person on the planet who prefers the re-make over the Gene Wilder edition)
Quite worn out from all that flying; I tried to sleep on the plane but was unsuccessful. My cab driver from the airport drove excessively fast and was on his phone for a large chunk of the ride (A big no-no in Canada) however he got me to my hotel in one piece so I guess he did his job.
My hotel room is a bit small but that's no big deal. It has a comfy bed and a bathroom and that's really all I need. Will likely try to get some sleep for a few hours and go out for dinner later on. I'm going to see the Colosseum tomorrow on a Skip The Line tour which I'm really looking forward to. I chose the Skip The Line option for nearly all my tours as I hear the line-ups for the major tourist attractions can be a few hours long!
On a side note going through Customs has changed dramatically since the last time I traveled outside Canada. At the Rome Airport all I had to do was scan my passport, pass through the facial recognition technology and get my passport stamped. Didn't have to answer a bunch of questions about my stay from a Customs Officer like in the past.
More updates to come.

Otherwise, these days with my unsettled contract situation, I can barely afford to go next door to California lol. I saw you said you are about to visit the Colosseum. That is definitely one place I plan to see too during my 7 or 8 day time in Rome this December. Once again, have fun!
