Feuds

So...I got a question about how promoters handle feuds.
We get great jumping off points at the start of the year. I usually start with those but as wrestlers face other wrestlers and those matches end in DQs or CountOuts, I have new feuds start.
The reason I ask is because in some of the threads for 2124 speculation I see promoters post, "I hope XXX feuds with XXX. in 2124." My thought is, why don't you just play out that feud yourself?
I'm not asking this to knock the way anyone plays. I'm asking because I'm always looking for new ways to play.
Do you keep the 'book' feuds going all year? Do you allow new feuds to develop?
I've been thinking of coming up with a excel spreadsheet sort of chart that you fill in to track the escalation/blowing off of a feud.
Just always curious as to how other promoters play.

Great topic Grant!! I try to keep the book feuds going all year; I approach them though as a background story with relation to what is going on now. I use the book feuds to fall back on when a particular wrestler doesn't have anything else going on. I let other feuds develop as they will & follow them to their conclusion. Recently, I've started focusing on a 5 week (4 cards & 1 PPV) cycle on those feuds; New action always happens on the previous PPV & then I take the next 4 cards to develop the feud & then the next PPV for the blow off. If things are still hot after the second PPV, I can always continue it another cycle; if things have cooled down (or one side is really dominating the feud) I end it & look for the next one. That's how I play.

I use the booklets for ideas. I probably use about half of the feuds suggested there, but some of my best feuds are things that just came up for me (Krakan vs. Wolf, Archon vs. Painmaster, for example). But the ones I do use tend to be long-term, at least for the year and sometimes more. My wrestlers hold serious grudges.

I always start out each year with the book feuds and then head off in my own stories and occasionally may find a book feud happening again if something starts running slow. I run 12 pay-per-views a year so the first 2 to 3 are used up on book feuds.

I've actually been playing very similar to this in my main GWF fed. I've been using the 4 cards leading to a PPV blow off. Loving this discussion! Keep it going!

I generally do my own thing with my GWF, however, I do use book feuds for a lot of the guys at some point... especially for someone to fall back on when they have nothing else to do.
For example: Reptile Nation (Comrade Terror, Mangus, Reptillo and Serpant Unman) can always feud with any earth wrestler due to the mutual hatred they have for one another.

The great part about promoting your own fed, is that you can pretty much make any feud work. I try and use the book as a jump off point, with the idea being that you can work in people you need as you go.

I try to make the book feuds my end-year goal. So, then it becomes a game of "how do I get to that point?"
For instance, although Chaos debuts in 2092 I won't have him face Star Warrior or Thantos until my year-end PPV. I will spend the whole year just having him destroy everyone in his path, and then at the PPV my fed will hold it's first-ever Triple Threat match. When Alpha Force debuts the next year, I won't have him and Chaos go at it until the end of 2093 if I can help it.
However, I allow other feuds to develop as well. I lay out a general plan but will go where the dice take me.

I use the book feuds to help determine some matches, and feuds are a huge part of my booking specialty matches in my fed. However, some natural feuds develop that add some extra oomph to the fed. For example, I am currently wrapping up my GWF 2097 year, and three of the better feuds to develop have been The Mercenaries vs. New Order and Alpha Force vs. Splatter. Basically, the book is a great guide, but you sometimes have to let the action dictate itself.
