I thought this image would be a good basis for discussion:

You could break that down regionally in some of the larger states. In the middle of Illinois here there is a strong Cardinals fan base. If this graphic is correct I'd say they're more popular here than in Missouri. I have never seen a Chiefs fan in the wild until their recent success, the Cardinals have been a mainstay my entire life.

That graphic for Saskatchewan is spot on as it's the only province in Canada where hockey takes a backseat to another sport. Even if they had NHL hockey there I doubt it would change things. The Roughriders have the most passionate fan base in the entire CFL and it's not even close.

I’m a former Kentucky fan (I hate all teams, college and pro now), but it’s 100% accurate for this state.
If you were doing pro sports, only the Reds would be in consideration Fandom is extremely scattered with pro teams in this state

Radio announcers Jack Buck & Mike Shannon were the soundtrack to my childhood.
I have fond memories of Whiteyball, and Kool & The Gang's "Celebration" during the 1982 World Series run.
BTW, Cardinals Hall Of Famer Keith Hernandez had a 70th birthday yesterday. He should definitely be in the National Baseball HOF!

defensively, there was not a better 1B than Keith Hernandez. I think the voters are holding his offense (his totals are low compared to other 1Bs in the Hall of Fame) and cocaine usage against him.

From my time living there I can say Michigan, West Virgina and Georgia look to be right. As said earlier, Illinois would be split between Cubs and Cardinals. The Bears might actually be in the mix as well. As far as Florida if it is U of F it is by the slimmest of margins. Florida State would be close with University of Miami close on their heels. Tampa Bay Lightning is gaining ground as well.

The HOF has strange ideas who belongs and who doesn't. There are ones who should be and aren't. There are those who shouldn't be and are. Hernandez is definitely better than some people in there but is still probably an edge case.
