It's a moon of MARS (an ancient Roman god, who was at an early period identified by the Romans with the Greek Ares, or the god delighting in bloody war.)

The Planets in our solar system are names after Roman Gods and many of the moons are as well...and therefore the etymology is Latin...from the Romans.
