I have mixed feelings about Florida State. On one hand I wanted them to win to stick it to the silly playoff system the NCAA has set up. On the other hand, I wanted them to lose to stick it to the idiot politicians here in Florida that were talking about suing because FSU was kept out of the playoffs. The fact is their game became meaningless when around 20 players opted out of playing. To me, that shows they did not care about claiming to be the best in the nation. If they played this one game and beat Georgia, especially by a decent amount, they could claim to be champions as they would be undefeated. But opting out meant they did not care about that. Either way it was a messy situation.
On a similar note, many bowl games these days come less about the end of the season for teams and more about a look at their future. Maryland is a good example of that with their backup QBs, and other backups, playing today.

Here is a statement from Nick Saban off a story on ESPN's site.
"The big games are going to be the big games," Saban said on Saturday, "and there's always going to be speculation of who the best 12 teams are just like there's speculation now who the best four teams are."
My response is, duh. The basketball tournament has expanded to 68 teams and there is still debate of who should be in and who should be left out. The only issue of debating who goes in and who does not is the money involved. Beyond that, to me at least, debate is part of the fun of sports. But yea, just watch out for the 13th and maybe even the 14th "best" team next year. Things could be as bad or even worse than the FSU situation this year.

There's always going to be somebody complaining about getting left out. However, teams with two or three losses being "left out" is nowhere near as bad as a team with zero losses being excluded.

Yeah, that's the thing, when you have done everything you possibly can do such as winning every single game and then you are not granted a chance to compete for the championship then it makes the regular season seem pointless. If a school from a Power 5 conference can go undefeated and be excluded from the playoffs then a school like my school UNLV really has no chance at all even before the season starts so what is the point of the season for most teams in the country? The number of teams allowed in a college football playoff setting will always be debatable, but clearly 4 is an insufficient number.

Florida State showing why they were rightfully kept out of the playoffs. In their defense between injuries and players opting-out they were down a large chunk of their starting line-up. According to ESPN 29 of their scholarship players weren't playing. Granted, even if they had played I still think Georgia would have won but I don't think it would have been nearly as bad as today's final score. I've never been a fan of players skipping out of a New Year's Six game. It's one thing if your team is playing in the Independence Bowl or Libery Bowl but if it's one of the Big Six I think you owe it to your teammates to play provided that you're healthy. I get the risk of injury argument for players entering the Draft but if I was one of those FSU players who skipped the game I'd be feeling awful knowing that I could have done something to prevent my team from being so thoroughly embarrassed.

I enjoyed the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl, I wasn't sure how that match up would turn out and a 31 to 24 score was pretty good in my book. I did want Rutgers to win and they did, but Miami had a chance but failed...

Michigan and Washington finish it off. Hopefully the game will be as good as the semifinals.
