Then in this week's main event, the team takes a look at the Classics 2084 and 2086 sets! They go over every card, the storylines of some pivotal GWF years, how they tied into current-day sets, memories of using some of these cards, and more! Find out what the videos below have to do with this episode! Uncharted Territory: Episode 160

MONTROL
A fighter pilot who fought long and hard in the Galactic Wars against Titan, Montrol was an early ally of Krakan's. He befriended Krakan in 2078, and in 2083, Krakan persuaded (or perhaps forced) Montrol to join the GWF and destroy Lord Nexus. Montrol agreed to do so, but unfortunately for him, he didn't have the talent that Lord Nexus possessed and failed to complete Krakan's objectives, forcing Krakan to become active in 2084. He also feuded with K.O. Keller during this time, and was soundly beaten most of the time. Krakan eventually kicked Montrol out of the GWF for incompetence and there were rumors that Krakan tried to kill Montrol and that a radioactive attack transformed Montrol into the Mutant. Upon learning this, Lord Nexus convinced Doomsayer to put Mutant in the Transevolver and change him back to Montrol. Mutant remained his mutated self, but Montrol turned out to be, along with Ghengis Khan, one of the Terrorists! They tormented Krakan until the chief of the HitMen paralyzed the two of them with a well-placed stun gun blast in 2111, putting both in the hospital and possibly ending their careers.
MONTROL put Krakan in the washing machine. LOL

How do you cope with this? The rope broke during the non televised match - so... it didn't happen.

Chad's recollection of Montrol and Mutant is correct. Doomsayer tried to Transevolve Mutant back to Montrol and it failed, resulting in the updated Mutant SE card. I believe the real Montrol was later revealed as one of the Terrorists.
Edit: And kudos to Stu for that CFP rant. FSU's star quarterback broke his leg, but teams have won the playoff with 3rd-string quarterbacks before.

I believe the real Montrol was later revealed as one of the Terrorists. I forgot about that when we were recording. My brain is getting old.

I love these episodes, so why not give my thoughts.
First, Bendis. When he started to become the official artist, I had to make a choice because his art started to completely turn me off it was so bad that I almost quit playing. So I had to think to myself: Can I look past the art and just get into the story, which was still great. I decided to stick to the characters and the story (Note: I miss the GWF of old when hit was various wrestlers from different places came to the GWF to settle their difference instead of things like the fate of the universe is on the line).
Lets do my own review and start off with 2084. I can’t say this enough, but I cannot believe how bad this art is. It literally looks like a 10 year old did it. I remember getting the cards and couldn’t believe what I saw. Montrol is probably the worst drawing in the history of the GWF…almost looked like one of the munchkins from the Wizard of Oz. And Lord Nexus…geez. After that awesome original Nexus art, we got this. YYYYIIIKKKEEESSSS.
But I do like several of the characters in this set.
Big Superstar – Very average and plan drawing, but I LOVED the character. One of my favorite characters to use from the classics era. I got to do so many things with him
Mimic – Obviously a Sting inspired guy, but bad drawing. I still think the card should’ve went more into him “mimicking” his opponents move.
Vice – Polarity was great and the addition of Vice made them even more interesting, but for the life of me, I can’t remember this art for anything…just it was very average. But the character was interesting.
Montrol – Horrible character and the drawing. There’s no way this clown could be one of the masterminds with the Terrorists. Looked like a complete putz.
KO Keller – Probably the best art of this set, but nothing to write home about. But the character was great. Loved using him.
Code Enforcer – Another great and interesting character. I know we knew the fugure but that made it fun to use him. Wasn’t he revealed to be Euritar’s dad? But the drawing was crap
Commander Krakan – Krakan is always a great character but good lord. Just horrible art
Lord Nexus – Seriously, that’s what Bendis saw and drew after seeing the original Nexus? Really? REALLY? Just embarrassing.
2086
I still didn’t like the Bendis style in this, but it was at least passible compared to the 2084 set.
1) Wolf – great backstory and was fun to use during that time period
2) Marcel de Sade – Like they mentioned, the original Executioner card, IMO, SUCKED due to those THREE!!!!! (ags). What in the world. De Sade gave him an interesting backstory though
3) Renegade/Natural Man – the eyes looked good on Renegade, but eh on the rest of the art. But like the others, the backstory was great
4) Polarity – Great concept! Wasn’t there another team later from the same place as Polarity?
5) Mighty Grogan – Good card. Just a guy that liked to get in the ring. How did he go from the old looking man to a younger looking guy 15 years later. (Note – that CPC commish Grogan card is another one of the worst ever drawings)
6) Dark Star Creature – dumb drawing, but the character is what it is.

Re: Executioner, remember the original ag/pw rules. It was only a reversal if the opponent had a negative rating. The original move-performer's ag/pw didn't factor into it. So Executioner was still strong against 0-or-worse Agility guys. The change to comparing the two ratings didn't come until 2090.

There have been several upsets but the one that always sticks out is Gryt beating Aethran Overmaster in 3 moves. Gryt refused to ever give him a rematch and still dines out on that story in my fed’s universe.

I hope Episode 169 is a Club Galactica review so that Chad has to miss it completely.
