Since people are sharing their memories of Sid I'll join in.
When I was a kid Sid's rivalry with Hulk Hogan in 1992 was the first time I ever sided with a heel in a storyline. I was a big Hogan fan at the time but when he helped pull Sid out of the ring in the Royal Rumble after being CLEANLY eliminated by him that reeked of poor sportsmanship and made Hogan look like a GIANT sore loser. More importantly it cost Sid a chance to win the World Title. When Sid walked out on Hogan during that Saturday Night's Main Event match against Flair & Undertaker a few weeks later I cheered him for it as I felt that Hogan deserved it. After the Rumble fiasco I was always hoping Sid would some day win the WWF World Championship and while it took nearly 5 years eventually it did happen.
I got to see Sid wrestle live once in July 1996 at In Your House: International Incident as he was part of the 6-man tag team main event. (I was sitting eighth row on the floor). I remember being happy when he was announced as Ultimate Warrior's replacement as I was never a Warrior fan as a kid. (I've since come to appreciate his character)
My condolences to his family & friends. Thanks for all the memories, Sid. Rest in peace.
