Winner and New World Champion: Buddy Rogers. Time: 2:32
News and Views: What a night of action! So much to break down.
Starting at the top. Buddy Rogers is the first World Champion after a controversial victory over Jimmy Snuka. There has been a great story building between the two over the past five cards. First, Rogers was disqualified at the Capital Centre for using a chair on Snuka’s leg. Then Superfly gets the best of Rogers in a six man tag team match in Portland, ME but comes out of the losing end. Then they were opposite sides of a wild tag team encounter in West Orange, NJ that ended with a disqualification finish when Snuka let his emotions get the best of him. The story took a twist tonight with the addition of Cowboy Bob Orton (thank you dice!) who has a history of his own with The Superfly. What is the relationship between Orton and Rogers and does that have anything to do with Orton’s motives? The Tag Team Title has also been surrounded in controversy after the initial match to determine the championship between the Killer Bees & Valiant Brothers ended with the Valiant Brothers being disqualified. The two teams were on opposite sides of a six man tag team encounter in West Orange, NJ what saw the Valiant attack and bloody the Killer Bees before the bell on their way to victory. Tonight, the two teams rocked the fans with a tag team classic that say the Valiant’s walk away with the gold in a chaotic finish. Bobo Brazil has already won and lost the Intercontinental Championship in what has become an intense battle with the Valentine family. There will be more to come between these three men.
These feuds are in addition to the battles between Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Nikolai Volkoff and the tag team encounters between the Naptown Dragons and the teams of Ilio DiPaolo & Antonino Rocca which have been must see encounters for intensity. How about Ted DiBiase trouble with the Samons. There is something extreme building between the Backseat Boys and the team of Sabu and The Sandman.
Up next, we head to the Spectrum in Philadelphia where all three champions will defend their titles in exact rematches from tonight! Plus, Ilio DiPaolo, Antonino Rocca, Playboy Buddy Rose, Johnny Valentine and Nikolai Volkoff in action.
