So I was organizing my closet and came across my shoebox of black and white cards. I broke it open and was blown away by how great some of the artwork was. I could not resist breaking out the dice for at least one card.
BW LOW Card 01 - Landover, MD - Capital Centre
Match 01 – Naptown Dragons v. Ilio DiPaolo & Antonino Rocca
An absolute banger of an opener with the Naptown Dragons using their double team finishers multiple times against both of their opponents. Rocca was busted open after being flung into the ring post by both his opponents. In the end, DiPaolo countered Scotty Vortekz’s cross body deathjump with a roll through for the three count.
Winners: Ilio DiPaolo & Antonino Rocca. Time: 7:57.
Match 02 - Alofa v. Ted DiBiase w/Virgil
Alofa had his moments early which gave the fans something to cheer about but a pair of MILLION DOLLAR SLEEPERS really slowed the Samoan down and allowed DiBiase to take it with a deathjump cross body.
Winner: Ted DiBiase. Time: 2:03
Match 03 – Billy “Red: Lyons v. Cowboy Bob Orton
Orton completely dominated this one from bell to bell and took it with a SUPERPLEX.
Winner: Cowboy Bob Orton. Time: 1:07.
Match 04 - Killer Bees v. Valiant Brothers w/Captain Lou Albano for the vacant World Tag Team Titles
After some back and forth action early on, Jim Brunzell was cut off from his corner and the Valiant Brothers went to work. They connected with a TOP ROPE ELBOW and the pin save was blocked but Brunzell kicked out. The action spilled outside and Jimmy Valiant was disqualified for smashing Brunzell with a chair!
Winners: Killer Bees by disqualification. Time: 2:06
Match 05 – Hacksaw Jim Duggan v. Nikolai Volkoff w/Nikita Breznikov
Duggan had the fans roaring as the thrashed the powerful Russian early on. Volkoff survived a FLYING SPEAR and an Old Glory knee drop before coming back and taking the action to the floor. Volkoff smashed Duggan with his chair and was disqualified.
Winner: Hacksaw Jim Duggan by disqualification. Time: 2:17
Match 6: - Yukon Eric v. Killer Kowalski
The intensity between these competitors exploded from the opening bell as the action spilled in and of the ring multiple times. Both men survived each others finishers as the action went back and forth and had the fans on the edge of their seats. The action ended up back on the floor and Kowalski shoved the referee aside to continue to brawl earning a disqualification.
Winner: Yukon Eric by disqualification. Time: 5:05.
Match 7 – Bobo Brazil v. Johnny Valentine for the vacant Intercontinental Title
Brazil managed to beat Valentine in a bloody mess and appeared to be on the verge of victory after a Bobo body slam but Greg Valentine attack Brazil saving his father and turning the momentum of the match. Brazil proved tough to beat and even survived an ATOMIC SKULLCRUSHER before getting the three count after a big hammer punch. After the bell, Greg Valentine joins his father for a beat down on the new champion. Brazil grabs the mic afterwards and challenges Greg Valentine to face him!
Winner and new Intercontinental Champion Bobo Brazil. Time: 2:59.
Match 08 - Buddy Rogers v. Jimmy Snuka for the vacant World Title
It was back and forth with the fans cheering every move by the Superfly before the action spilled to the floor and Rogers took the shortcut of smashing a chair into Snuka’s leg resulting in a disqualification.
Winner: Jimmy Snuka by disqualification. Time: 1:14.
I had so much fun rolling this out and since there were so many questions lingering at the end of the event, I have to see this through until I least have the champions determined. Blame the dice!!!.
Commissioner Charlie Cox was quick address the World Title and World Tag Team Title situation. Both titles will remain vacant and will be filled in rematches at an upcoming card at the Boston Garden!
Up next, action from Portland, ME at the Civic Centre featuring a six man tag team match in the main event with Buddy Rogers joining Ted DiBiase & Virgil to challenge Jimmy Snuka and the Samoan Tribe plus a rematch from tonight with Naptown Dragons taking on the team of Ilio DiPaolo & Antonino Rocca. Plus King Kong Bundy, Playboy Buddy Rose, Sabu, The Sandman, and Iron Sheik in action.
