Yea the logistics of place and time is not the best. From Jamestown to Destroyer Park Golf also varies if taking toll road or not. there is a toll on the highway between Buffalo and Jamestown, at least there was back in 2017 when Galacticon was last in Jamestown Yea that's what I was saying. There is a toll road that is the fastest route. But there is a route without a toll road.

I live in the NYC area, thats like a fraction of any toll around here.

And a fraction of the cost of tolls in the Chicago area, which I am mentally preparing myself to drive through twice in the next six days.

Nothing compares to the toll rd in Pennsylvania from just east of Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. When you get that bill in the mail, you say - WOW!

My favorite is driving to NC to see my folks if we choose to go through WVa. we get a monstrous bill that includes IL, MI, IN, OH, and WVa. Watching the IPass recharge twice on tolls makes me feel all sorts of warm and fuzzies.

Yeah, it has been 7 years, but from what I recall, you would probably spend more on gas (in addition to the extra 10-20 minutes Pete mentioned) taking the longer route to avoid the toll compared to taking the direct route and paying the toll.

I drive down to the Washington DC area a few times a year from CT. The total round trip tolls are around $80. I thought that was steep. But I do see if you go from Pittsburgh to Philly on the PA turnpike that's about the cost for 1 way without EZ Pass. With EZ Pass its about half that amount.

According to Google Maps the longer route is actually shorter, mileage-wise, but it looks like it's a lot more back roads instead of a straight shot. So maybe more stop-start, circuitous driving but also maybe at lower speeds. And I don't know what the difference in terrain would be like. But strictly in terms of mileage it's a wash.

OK, but you also don't know what it is like (even with GPS) in terms of lights coming back at night from Buffalo on Friday on what you describe as "back roads." How lighted is this alternative route? I was in a vehicle that got lost for awhile on a dark Pennsylvania road returning to the hotel from the AA game in Reading back at Galacticon 2019. If the toll is only $2.90, I think it makes more sense just to pay it is my overall main point.
