Just got home from day two of the Super Strong Style 16 tournament. I think the winner was very much made obvious at the end of the first day, when Luke Jacobs took at world champion Kid Lykos and cut a long promo about how much he hates Lykos. And, so it happens, Jacobs won the tournament.
The final, while a little telegraphed, was still a phenomenal match between Jacobs and Ricky Knight Jr.
I think Shelton Benjamin may have been unable to lose clean, and so he was knocked out the tournament by disqualification after beating down Man Like Dereiss and shoving the ref to the ground. Hilariously, Dereiss had turned his hair blond since yesterday and declared himself the new gold standard at the start of the match.
The women's world title ladder match was superb. Riho retained in a match with lots of good ladder spots and some good comedy. There was a point all four went to grab ladders from under the ring, three came up with big ladders and one of the heels, Lizzy Evo, emerged from under the ring with a ridiculously tiny ladder.
One of the bigger surprises of the night was new Filsinger signee Axel Tischer beating Yoichi to win the Atlas title. I don't think anyone expected Yoichi to lose it on his second defence, but I have always been a massive Tischer fan from the first shows I saw him on for wXw and so I am quite pleased to see him now being a double champion at Progress.
The next show for Progress has Danhausen and Bussy, which will be another fun night!
