Is it just me or has it been a very slow start to the summer movies season?
I can't honestly say there has been anything released in the last 2 months that I have wanted to see...

Driving around LA, every single bus bench, billboard and wall has ads for movies and I realized looking at all of them is this summer is all sequels. Even things that seem new, Twisters, are sequels. Even Deadpool & Wolverine is a sequel, but that's one I'm excited to see. Nothing new under the sun.
Part of the reason is the strikes. And ITSE still hasn't come to an agreement with the Producers. There is no work right now and I've heard from several sources that the studios have a 'survive till '25' attitude. No work on anything new until 2025. So it'll probably get worse before it gets better.

To me it has been so-so much like last few years. A few movies I have seen or want to see. Mostly sequels which usually I am not big on, but it depends if I like the franchise and the sequels are at least decent or not. I have never been one to be loyal or whatever to studios and/or production companies but one that I am starting to become a fan of is A24.

There's been NOTHING released in the past 4 months that has interested me (I do hope to see The Bikeriders in the next few weeks). I've seen two movies in theatres the past 7 months: The Iron Claw and The Holdovers. Long gone are the days of me going to the movies 2-3 times a month and watching 3 movies a day. Superhero movies don't interest me; especially with their bloated 2 hour 40 minute run-times where half of the film is visual effects. If I'm sitting in a theatre for that long you better have enough STORY to justify that running time: Dances With Wolves, Schindler's List, Titanic, The Godfather and Goodfellas are all long movies that are compelling enough to hold my attention for an extended period of time. I've found that you can't even rely on the independent movie scene anymore to tell compelling stories; Indie filmmakers these days are much more interested in making some sort of "artistic expression" than telling a coherent story with plot, conflict and character development. As a movie-buff it pains me to say that both Hollywood and Independent films are slowly killing my love of movies. I'm at the point where I'd much rather just stay at home and re-watch the classics.

I went several years going to maybe 1 movie a year. This past year I saw Oppenheimer, The Iron Claw, Sound of Freedom, Ordinary Angels, Arthur the King, and The Chosen season 4. It seems really odd to have seen that many considering how slim the movie pickings are.

yeah, on another thread here, me and on_the_edge were talking earlier in the year that this was a slow start to the year for movies, but we also mentioned and realized this was not a surprise due to the recent actors and wrtiers strikes which delayed production for alot of movies. But there have been a few movies this year which I enjoyed such as The Bikeriders, Furiosa, Abigail, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Fall Guy, and The Ministry of Ungentlemanry Warfare. But last year was indeed much better for movies IMO. some 2023 movies I really likedOppenheimer Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One Killers of the Flower Moon Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 The Iron Claw Wonka Dumb Money Air The Super Mario Bros. Movie Napoleon Last year, I also liked Barbie (but not quite as much as others,) and The Holdovers (until the ending,) and both Thanksgiving and Scream VI were good horror movies.

I have not been to a movie in the theater in about a month as the last one I saw was The Bikeriders back in June as there just has not been many releases the last few weeks to catch my interest.
But this week I think I am going to see both Twisters and Deadpool & Wolverine.

I am looking forward to Deadpool and that is about it. I was interested in seeing The Watchers but did not get around to it before it left theaters. Will catch it somehow later on. The new Alien has a bit of interest for me and I might go see it if I can work it out with other things I want to do. Part of it is I do not want to go sit in a theater and the drive-in will only work if the weather is not an issue.

I want to read the book first but it was not at the library down the street so I had to order the book online. I will definitely see the upcoming Alien movie on its opening weekend.
