This week the very first megaresort on the Las Vegas Strip, The Mirage, closed its doors with the volcano going off one final time. The Mirage opened in November 1989 and paved the way for many of the current megaresorts on the Strip which opened during the 1990s.
The Mirage is being torn down and replaced by the new Hard Rock casino which will be in the shape of a guitar.
In addition to the Mirage, the Tropicana here is also being demolished as it will be the site for the stadium of the Las Vegas As.
There was some local concern about George the duck who stayed in the waters of the Mirage as he has a broken wing and can't fly. However, the Flamingo is going to provide a home for George the duck so he won't be hurt when they demolish the Mirage.

I saw a few stories on the news about that. I was bummed as have never been to Vegas and so would not get a chance to go there. I meant to ask you if you went to try in cash in all the money they were giving away. Not sure if you heard but state law says they had to give away unclaimed progressive jackpots. It was said to be $1.6 million they were giving away in drawings or some such way. Not sure if the Tropicana is in the same boat but they might be. I was unaware of this George but happy he is getting a new home. I hope he adjusts ok to it.

Oh yeah the Mirage was reportedly packed recently with people trying to get that money. But you had to be playing slots with a Unity Rewards card inserted at the times of the randomally selected jackpots (it seemed like some of those people thought they were just simply handing out cash at the door lol.) The Tropicana closed in April. I recently drove past it and the place has already been gutted and seems to be awaiting demolition. I am not sure if George the Duck will like the Flamingo better than the Mirage. I personally preferred the Mirage but the Flamingo has alot more History dating back to Bugsy Siegel.

lol that is funny. I knew people still had to win but just there were better odds and more money the house was "losing" than normal. Well, if George is a fan of gangsters, he might enjoy that.
