One thing I was asked during my interview on Thursday was why I wanted to be the Department Chair. I explained I really wanted to be involved in mentoring future teachers as they are going to be ones working with students for the next 30 years so having that type of influence is important to me as a professional. We have a very veteran group in our department with members openly talking about retiring soon.

Me and most of my coworkers have been together since 2007 so we were there together in the mid-late 2000s, the entire 2010s, and still together in what is now approaching the mid 2020s. However, I see a future landscape change and I want to do what I can to help out newer teachers who I think will soon be in my department.

Very smart and good of you to be thinking like that. Like the veteran wrestler who mentors the young talent you are going to help the future teachers be ready for the roads you have traveled that they will be taking. I know they will be in good hands. Your school, and the others the teachers might move on to, will benefit from it.
