Army seeks to recoup $6 millionThe Army is seeking to recoup money from an $11 million marketing deal with the United Football League and celebrity Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson after the partnership failed to yield a single new recruit, according to a Military.com report, citing Army documents. An Army spokesperson told Military.com the service is "in the process of working with the UFL" to determine the final amount it is hoping to recoup from the deal. But according to the documents, that amount is $6 million. As part of the deal, which was signed earlier this year, the UFL featured prominent Army branding on player uniforms and in games during its inaugural season that ran from March through June. The Army also expected Johnson, who is a co-owner of the league, to tout the Army in five social media posts. With 396 million followers on Instagram, Johnson's posts were valued by the Army at $1 million each, according to Military.com. But according to the report, Johnson did not fulfill his end of the deal and made only two Army-related posts, including none since April. A review conducted by the Army projects that the partnership led to a loss of 38 enlistments, the report said. Beyond the part about The Rock and his tweets I do not see where they expect to get their $ back. These deals have no guarantee or return. I do not see where they can say for certain it did not lead to any new recruits yet alone how they lost enlistments. Seems a bit of an uphill battle for the Army. Heck, even the part about the tweets. The Rock can put them out and that will be that.

I wonder how many people joined the Marines because they thought Sgt. Slaughter was really a Marine?
Or how many people joined the Marines or Navy because they watched "Gomer Pyle" or "McHale's Navy"?
Or how many people joined any branch of service because they wanted to join G.I. Joe and fight Cobra?

To be fair that is a bit different as I do not think the branches of the military paid for the others do those things. They did give the military free advertising, however. Even if it may not have been the best lol.

Betting on The Rock outside of pro-wrestling has proven to be a very unwise investment. What he purports to be and what he is are not the same. Also recruitment was badly hampered by other factors such as U.S.'s disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal.
