I wonder if Gordienko is more legend than fact at this point. I have similar questions about the Great Gama, honestly, and I know some historians like Steve Yohe do as well. I got some Grand Prix footage from the early '70s years ago that I thought was a gold mine because it actually had Gordienko footage, but to say I was underwhelmed would be putting it lightly. Granted, that was at the tail end of his career but he was not impressive as a wrestler, interview, or overall personality. I get he was a fascinating figure in real-life but does that translate to performing? I didn't see it with him.
I don't see any way for Verne to retain Hogan, title or no title. Verne had a number of huge markets but didn't have New York or Vince and Hogan's aspirations, and the conflicts over Japan were going to come to a head regardless. (But man, I'd love to see just one Hogan vs. Jumbo Tsuruta match in Japan.)
I wonder if Dusty doesn't do something stupid like try to turn Magnum heel--Lord knows he did it with all of his other babyface friends. We can ponder "what if" but when it came down to it, when Dusty was an active wrestler with backstage power, another babyface usurping his spot didn't work for him, brother ba-beh.

I would say if Thesz was willing to lose the title to Gordeinko, and reading results and Steven Verrier’s fantastic book, Gordeinko was a lot like Dick Hutton but better on promos than Hutton. His work was smooth, in the ring with agility that beguiled his strength. Which, per Jos LeDuc, Gordeinko had strength that left him hurting for weeks. I was more asking what happens to Gordeinko’s career and how he was remembered here in the U.S.

I was in rare form. Apologies to anyone offended. I hope I don't jeopardize our $20 sponsorship with Pumpkin Spice Oreos. speaking of Oreos, the Coca Cola Oreos currently in the stores are great IMO I'll have to keep an eye out for those next time I'm at the store; hopefully they're available in Canada. If not I can always pick up a pack on my next U.S. snack run in Washington.

Once again, I want to say how glad I am to see "Night Train" Gary Jackson honored by the CAC and have him in the game. I first saw him way back in August 1988 when World Wrestling Alliance(formerly Central States) came to my area for a Summer festival. Gary lost to a big--and I mean big--man called Grim Reaper. If I'm not mistaken, Grim Reaper would go on to become Prince Kharis. Ric McCord won the opening match that night, and World Class Champion Kerry Von Erich beat Tommy Gilbert in the Main Event. Who would know that several years later, I'd be ring announcer for a local indie and meet Tommy's son, Doug Gilbert, who thought I looked like Memphis matchmaker Randy Hales, and Dutch Mantell agreed with him. It really is a small world after all.
Also nice to hear Herb Simmons mentioned in this podcast. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of meeting Herb, he's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He gave away free tickets for his first show back after the pandemic. He did a Halloween show a few years ago, and I went dressed as Jim Cornette. He was nice enough to allow me to cut a promo on him as Corny. I told him "Herb Simmons, my Mama always said the only thing worse than a promoter is a politician, and you, Herb Simmons, are both which makes you the worst of the worst! If you don't stop harassing my close personal friend, Travis Cook, I'll call my Mama's lawyers, and they'll sue you for everything you've got--which from the looks of you ain't much!" BTW, Travis Cook is a local manager that Herb calls Travis Crook. Herb was nice to go along with me. As both his town's mayor and his county's Emergency Services Director, I don't know where he has the time to run Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling. Since Herb has also been honored by the CAC, I'm hoping that one day we can get a promoter card for him, or maybe through him, we could get Sam Muchnick and Larry Matysik!
Also, fellas, please watch your bleeping language or someone will wash your bleeping mouths out with bleeping soap! LOL
