I have bever seen anything like this before. I'm in northeast Tennessee, and cross the state line daily into North Carolina for work (30 minute drive)
Just the destruction is surreal. I live in a county that seems to have just high levels of generational poverty, to the point where it's hard to comprehend sometimes.
I've spent the last 5 days working at the local church. We are feeding 5-600 people at lunch and dinner. Working anywhere from 8-12 hour days. All major roads have experienced wash outs. A construction company is making temporary roads next to the major roads out of towns, so we can still function.
I had a father crying yesterday as he opened up that his family has lost everything. And we're in the mountains, so you can guess most weren't carrying flood insurance. I just tried to comfort him and his son, and tell him about all the resources in the county he can use temporarily.
This is tough. It will take years to recover. But we will. Love yall, and tell your loved ones you love them.

Great work you're doing there. Hopefully the kindness of yourself and other volunteers is making things a bit easier for the people affected.

Total damage is now being estimated at 225-250 billion. What a tragedy.
