Every so often, I get the itch to rerun my Memphis fed. Due to time constraints with everyday life, marriage, kids, work, doing the Cornette youtube channel, it eats away at my time, which is why I love online. One of the drawbacks? Not that my art is perfect or anything, but I do like to see the art whenI’m playing.
So I signed up for Carlzilla’s FG Assistant so I could add my art when playing. Definitely more fun playing when you can see the art when playing, so I thought I may as well retry my Memphis fed. I’ve updated stats for several wrestlers to balance them out more.
Like my other Memphis feds, I start out with Jerry Jarrett breaking away from Nick Gulas. While it originally happened in March of 1977, to get more play out of my fantasy fed, I’m making it so that Jarrett broke away at the end of 1976 so I can start my fed at the start of 1977. While I try to stick to the original stuff, I’m also putting my own spin on things with dates, feuds and how the dice roll.
I’ve gotten through my initial Southern Title Tournament, so I’ll be posting the cards here. It had some predictability and some surprises, so that’s definitely a fun thing when you treat your federation as a shoot. You need to be creative to figure out how to fit things in and make it work.

Lance Russell made a surprise appearance on the local WMC-5 with Dave Brown after the nightly weather report. As part of the Memphis announce team with Brown, Russell is a well regarded personality in the area, so when he stated he would have a big announcement about the future of Memphis wrestling during the 6 PM news this Monday, fans took notice and were sure to tune in.

A segment for the nightly WMC-5 news was blocked off for this big Memphis wrestling announcement. This may seem strange for fans of other wrestling territories, but Memphis wrestling is a religion to many fans of this area since they are often the top rated program in the area.
The program came back from break with Russell sitting at the table and flanked by Jerry Jarrett and Southern Champion Rocky Johnson and one of the area's top stars, Bill Dundee. Jarrett informed the audience that the promotion would be splitting from the established Nick Gulas run NWA territory.
While it was a risk, Jarrett knew from TV ratings and attendance at the weekly cards at the Mid South Coliseum, he felt confident in his decision of breaking away and starting a new promotion.
Jarrett added that while he respected the current champions of the promotion (Rocky Johnson as Southern Champion and the Bicentennial Kings, who were offered a chance to sit in for this appearance, but Rock Hunter vehemently denied the invite), he was vacating the belts.
His reasoning was that he felt as a new promotion, they needed to establish their own history and establish their own champion. Russell asked Johnson how he felt about the decision. Johnson answered he didn’t agree 100%, but understood why Jarrett made the decision. Jarrett added that Johnson has well represented the territory and has secured him a shot at the NWA Title in Atlanta in the next month. Surprised by the announcement, Johnson thanked Jarrett for this opportunity and stated he would do his best to bring the NWA World Title to Memphis.
Russell asked Dundee his thoughts on this new endeavor, with Dundee stating he is in awe of Jarrett’s match making ability and how he has run the territory flawlessly when many predicted he would fail. Dundee added he’s seen the man at work and is confident the promotion will not miss a beat after breaking away from Gulas.
When asked about the wrestlers he has signed, Jarrett stated he had almost everyone that has wrestled in the territory on board and will be ready to go. He said he’s waiting on a few more negotiations to go through before making a formal announcement on the roster.
Just then, Jerry Lawler and Mickey Poole entered the studio. Lawler informed the audience that the negotiations Jarrett is speaking about are his own. Lawler pulled out the contract and said he knows that Jarrett’s promotion hinges on him signing since Lawler knows he is the straw that stirs the drink, that he sees the ratings and the money he draws weekly to the Mid South Coliseum. He then gave the contract to Jarrett and told him that his terms are acceptable and is confident that Jarrett is going to make him an even richer man.
Lawler turned his attention to Dundee to tell him it's funny to see that Dundee has become Jarrett’s lapdog and if Jarrett stops walking, Dundee will break his nose. Dundee rose to confront Lawler, but Jarrett asked him to sit since there will be a time and place and that will be inside the squared circle.
Lawler then addressed Johnson, saying with his new contract, he’s looking at expanding his King’s Army. He asked Poole to give him a bag that Poole was carrying. Lawler added that he’s on the market for a new Cadillac and since he really doesn’t like driving, he’s wanting to hire a chauffeur. He presented Johnson a chauffeur’s hat and offered to hire him as his driver. Angered by the insulting gesture by Lawler, Johnson jumped over the desk to attack Lawler, resulting in a huge brawl.
Dundee and Jarrett finally were able to restrain Johnson as Lawler and Poole made a hasty exit from the studio. Jarrett later added he had fined Lawler $500 for his actions and to cover any damages to the studio and while he understands Johnson’s anger, he told him he needed to hold his frustration in and fined him $250.
Now that the company knows the complete roster, Jarrett announced the pairings for the Southern Title Tournament, which will cover the first two Mondays and the finals will be held on Monday, January 17.
