The UWA Tournament of Champions, which will determine the initial World, US, and TV champions of the new Universal Wrestling Alliance, was rocked by the First Round upset of one of the favorites to win, the Immortal Hulk Hogan. Taking on former ECW Champion Justin Credible in the main event of the card in Los Angeles, Hogan was dropped with a shot from Credible's Singapore Cane and the referee counted three after failing to see the infraction. Hogan sat stunned in the center of the ring and then complained to the ref but Credible still left victorious and will face Greg "The Hammer" Valentine in the next round. The remainder of the card was mostly forgettable with short and often one-sided matchups. Credible will also be interviewed live on Monday's TV telecast. Here are the other results...
In the opener Dick Hutton and Danny Hodge defeated the Fabulous Kangaroos when Hutton pinned Heffernan after piledriving him outside the ring. Heffernan has challenged Hutton to a singles match that will take place in Portland OR next week.
In a 1st Round tournament match King Kong Bundy pinned Stan Hansen after an Avalanche, insisting on and receiving a five count.
In other 1st Round tourney action Ricky Steamboat pinned Arn Anderson after almost 20 minutes of action which Steamboat controlled. Anderson was resilient, surviving two of Steamboat's Flying Bodypressess and three times having his head slammed to the ringpost before being pinned after a Butterfly Suplex. This was the longest and best match of the night despite lacking the impact of Credible's win.
In a tag qualifier to determine which two teams will meet The Road Warriors and The Midnight Express in the tag title semifinals Dennis Condrey and Buff Bagwell scored a win over the James Gang when Condrey pinned Kip after a slingshot elbow. They move on to face the winner of The Killer Bees vs the Million Dollar Man and Brutus Beefcake.
1st Round Title tourney action resumed with Magnum TA pinning Curt Hennig after a Belly-to-Belly Suplex and Nick Bockwinkel putting Raven to sleep with his Bockwinkel Sleeper.
In a special tag team attraction The Midnight Express defeated Tiger Mask and Jushin Liger. Tiger Mask was pinned after a Veg-O-Matic in a match that was short and not nearly as good as it looked on paper.
In the last match before Hogan's loss to Justin Credible Harley Race won when Rob Van Dam was DQ'ed during a brawl outside the ring.
This card was a major disappointment, with only one match over 10 minutes and all the others being short and one sided. I wanted to burn my dice. But the Credible upset of Hogan gives me something to play with and there are some great 2nd round matchups...
