Noob with a bunch of questions

I've come back from GenCon with the CotG: New Beginnings game. I love the game; it's depressing that I've been playing games since the '70's and am only just now coming across this game. I do have a handful of questions though:

* In the rulebook it says that a sample match has been included, I can't find that sample match. It's not a biggie but a link to any sample match, basic rules or otherwise would be helpful.

* In the 2009-2010 catalog under Game Charts, the first four charts seem to correspond to the charts that came with the game. But in the catalog the chart called 'Into the Turnbuckle/Suicide Dive' is actually 'Into the Turnbuckle/Feud'. Is the catalog a misprint? Is there an actual Suicide Dive chart?

*With so many choices, it's hard to know what to buy next. The rules suggest picking up the GWF Ringside Companion. How is this different for the Ringside Companion 2107? Is it worth having both?

* I'm assuming that the other game charts correspond to match rules given in the Companions, is this correct? Or, to put it another way, if I bought all the game charts, what would I need to get to have the rules for all those match types?

*For game editions, is it best to buy the ones that (story wise) come after New Beginnings (the 3 Subversion years and the 2 Martial Laws) or is it best to start at the very beginning?

* What's the difference between GWF, CPC, aCe, GWFZ, and Classic Game editions?

* What makes the Special Edition cards special?

Sorry for all the pestery questions but, as usual after GenCon, I've spent too much and have to gage my purchases carefully for the next couple of months. Thanks!

Yes. Suicide Dive is available as a special chart (and has an alternative Turnbuckle chart on the flip side).

The first GWF Ringside Companion came with 18 specialty matches which were either made available with the game editions up to the time of original printing or material that was offered in some other form (ie. a separate order). The Ringside Companion 2107 was a release along the same lines that contains 9 different charts (some of which were made especially for the edition). There is no overlap between the two. Owning both editions would cover all the official charts that go with the GWF up to edition 2107.

The charts combos below are outstanding from the two companions but sell separately for $2 each:

Lava Pit Match/Ruins of Antilla Match

Any chart you buy would have a preamble with its rules on it.

* What's the difference between GWF, CPC, aCe, GWFZ, and Classic Game editions?

The GWF is the flagship product and is updated each year with a new game edition. The other products are more niche orientated (aCe: sci fi, CPC: MMA, GWFZ: player created wrestlers that act as a fictional feeder Fed for the GWF, Classics: in the process of being revamped into a more strategic wrestling product).

With Classics you receive a new batch of wrestlers in PDF Form every two months through a Promoter Online subscription.

* What makes the Special Edition cards special?

SE cards aren't part of a regular game edition purchase and have to be bought separately. An SE will typically take a pre-existing wrestler from a past set and update the art, change the move set, etc.

There are also classics game sets to buy in card form, not just new cards in pdf through the promoter. If you have New Beginnings, story wise you just go in order by the game year. You can start at 2087 with the first GWF set, or go all the way back to Early Classics and start there. By going with New Beginnings you are at least close to the current game year.

Thanks. I've started out by purchasing all the charts, both companions, some blank wrestler cards (I love making my own stuff), the Invasion series, and the original 2087 game set just so I can see how it all began (can't wait to get the stuff). I also demoed the CotGOnline and it was very entertaining; great for solo play (though sometimes the result on the card wouldn't show up and I had to look at the text box to see the result)! A friend has also bought the basic set for Legends of Wrestling for me so I'm thinking I might get the companion for that too; no reason you can't have a lumberjack match in the GWF I figure.

I noticed that, at least in New Beginnings, every female seems to have a Distractor rating except Shann-Ra. Is there any specific reason she doesn't have one?

One of the beautiful things about this game is customization. It's really up to you what you want to do and how to do it. Creating wrestlers is a blast; and creating balanced (meaning 'plays well with others') can be a rewarding experience!
