Thanks for the comments Godzillajoe, Crimson, and Kamala. The MSG card are always fun to roll out. Next up the ladies are in action for another wild night in SHIMMER...
SHIMMER - Women Athletes - The Eagles Club - Berwyn, IL (Card #768)
1) Trinity Denucci defeated Courtney Rush: The popular Courtney Rush out of Canada took on Jersey Shore native Trinity Denucci in a hard fought opening match. Both women were on top of their game here and the often underrated Denucci showed here tenacity by surviving the Olympic Slam in the early going. Rush kept up here offensive until Denucci caught her with the New Jersey Slam for a big near fall. With time running out there was a criss cross sequence off the ropes until Denucci executed a Counter Sunset Flip to score the pin.
2) Nicole Matthews defeated Athena: The second bout saw Athena attempting to continue the frustration of Nicole Matthews who has had a hard time in singles action since having to disband the Canadian Ninjas with Portia Perez. Athena was on fire in the early going and scored near falls with the springboard DDT and cartwheel double knee drop. Matthews had to dig deep down to get back in it and she scored with a side backbreaker for a near fall. After a battle on the outside, where Matthews avoided a disqualification, she brought it back inside and laid Athena out with the Vancouver Maneuver, a rolling cutter, to score the pin.
3) Simply Luscious defeated Tina Moretti: Tina Moretti has made it known that she wants a shot at the SHIMMER championship but that dream suffered a roadblock here in the form of Simply Luscious. It was a bitter defeat for Moretti in what was otherwise an outstanding match. Moretti dominated early and managed to hit the Jumping Facebuster but Luscious got her foot over the bottom rope to break up the pin. Luscious began battling back and hit both the Death Valley Driver and roundhouse kick for near falls. The two battled out to the floor several times engaging in a stiff back and forth battle. Moretti turned it up near the end but a counter by Luscious led to her hitting the Luscious Landing, a springboard bulldog, to score the pin.
4) Sara Del Ray & Daizee Haze vs. Mildred Burke & Jazz was a DDQ: A heated tag team bout saw Sara Del Ray & Daizee Haze square off against the double tough team of Mildred Burke & Jazz. The crowd was at a fever pitch for this one especially when Del Ray was in against Burke. It was Burke gaining the upper hand and scoring a near fall with a forearm uppercut. Jazz tagged in but was quickly put on the defensive as Del Ray trapped her in the Lebell Lock. Haze then tagged in and blasted Jazz with a Heart Punch sending her out of the ring. The battle went to the floor where Haze was nearly disqualified after repeatedly running Jazz head first into the timekeeper’s table. That built to a furious finish which saw Haze nail Jazz with the Mind Trip but Burke made the save. Del Ray jumped in and went after Burke leading to all four women brawling. The referee was unable to restore order and he threw the match out ruling it a double disqualification. LOW officials had to be brought to ringside to separate the two teams.
5) Mercedes Martinez & Saraya Knight defeated Cheerleader Melissa & Lufisto by DQ: Coming off of her big win regaining the SHIMMER title from Mercedes Martinez on the last card, Cheerleader Melissa joined forces with the “Super Hardcore Anime” Lufisto to take on Martinez and Saraya Knight. This one was every bit the war everyone had expected it to be going in. Tension even spilled over between Martinez and Knight as both are known to be fiercely independent and aggressive. Melissa gained the upper hand late in the match and avoided a corner charge causing Martinez to fall out of the ring. The battle picked up on the floor where all four women traded blows. Melissa raged out of control and wound up getting her team disqualified when she hit Martinez across the back with a series of chair shots. Knight got the chair away post-match and hit both Melissa and Lufisto with it before LOW officials ran down to ringside attempting to end the battle. Knight also took some of them down before order was finally restored.
●Backstage after the match it was SHIMMER champion Cheerleader Melissa being interviewed by Amber Gertner when Mercedes Martinez burst into the locker room demanding her championship rematch. Saraya Knight also got involved and said that she deserves a shot as well prompting her and Martinez to begin shoving each other and that also led to Lufisto joining in. All four women again had to be separated by LOW officials and after things calmed down it was a confident Melissa that threw down a challenge agreeing to defend the title against Martinez, Knight, and Lufisto in a Four Way Elimination Match on the next card in Berwyn, IL (Card #778).
6) Portia Perez defeated Alere Little Feather: This special challenge match saw Alere Little Feather taking on Portia Perez in an attempt to avenge the shoulder injury that Ida Mae Martinez suffered at the hands of Perez on the last card. Perez threatened the ring announcer during the introductions prompting Little Feather to step in. She caught Perez with a monkey flip getting this one off to a fast start. Little Feather was very aggressive early and that may have proven to be her undoing. After a quick dropkick by Perez sent her out to the floor, a dazed Little Feather rolled back in only to be blasted with a Superkick by the spunky Canadian star resulting in the three count.
7) Sherri Martel, Nora Greenwald, & Joyce Grable defeated Madison Eagles, Kellie Skater, & Jessie McKay: The heat was off the charts for this one as Madison Eagles returned from injury to team up with fellow Australian stars the “Rate Tank” Kellie Skater & “Everybody’s Favorite Girlfriend” Jessie McKay to battle the veteran trio of Sherri Martel, Nora Greenwald, & Joyce Grable. Martel was also returning from an indefinite suspension that was put on her for her role in injuring Eagles. It was intense from the opening bell with Martel taking charge and nearly pinning Eagles with the Top Rope Splash. Greenwald and Grable tagged in keeping control until Eagles nailed Grable with Hell Bound for a big near fall. Skater almost got a big win when she trapped Martel in Skate or Die going for the submission. McKay followed with a huracanrana on Martel for another big near fall. The Australian team had things going their way until McKay caught Greenwald with a counter clothesline and went for the pin. A melee ensued and Grable dropped an elbow on the back of McKay’s head before putting Greenwald on top to score the pin.
●Madison Eagles, backed by Kellie Skater and Jessie McKay, gave an impassioned in-ring speech while being interviewed by Amber Gertner following the match. She said that when she returned to Australia following her injury she wasn’t sure if she would be able to return but the support of Skater and McKay motivated her to get back. She vowed that the war was not over and that Martel and her cronies had better look over their shoulders from “now until the end of time!”
8) SHIMMER tag team titles: Glamour Girls© defeated MsChif & Christina Von Eerie to retain the titles: The SHIMMER tag team titles were on the line in the main event as the Glamour Girls (Leilani Kai & Judy Martin) made their version five defense of the belts against the formidable challenging team of MsChif & Christina Von Eerie. This one was a great bout from start to finish with both teams coming ever so close to victory. Three of the four (MsChif, Von Eerie, and Martin) hit their finishing moves during the course of the match but were unable to put the opposition away. Von Eerie was on fire looking for her first championship in LOW hitting such key moves as the Graveyard Smash and Dead Rising. She also went toe-to-toe with the double tough Martin including winning one battle with a barrage of headbutts. The finish of a great bout saw Martin double over Von Eerie with a running knee to the stomach off of an Irish whip. That set up a tag to Kai who delivered the Running Splash on a stunned Von Eerie to score the pin and retain the titles. The crowd cheered the efforts of both teams post-match as they came together shaking hands in a show of respect. The victory by the Glamour Girls leaves them one behind the SHIMMER tag team title defense record of six held by Sara Del Ray & Daizee Haze.

Just getting caught up on the action. MSG was once again a fun event. The Warriors v Sabu & R V D looked epic and the main event was certainly controversial. Couple of interesting first round tournament matches.

I can only imagine a tag match like Melissa & Lufisto vs. Mercedes & Saraya! Can Ladies' wrestling get any more bada$$ than that?

Thanks for the comments Bookerbill and Daytondave. Road Warriors vs. Sabu & RVD was off the charts and I hope you will enjoy the tournament. Melissa & Lufisto vs. Martinez & Saraya was a real war as you would expect. Next up is action from CHIKARA with a controversial main event result...
CHIKARA - The Cup Runneth Over - The Asylum Arena - Philadelphia, PA (Card #769)
1) Green Ant defeated Mister ZERO: A great opening bout saw Colony member Green Ant take on Mister ZERO, the cult favorite middle aged office worker of CHIKARA. It was all Mister ZERO early including catching Green Ant with the Last Shaven Unicorn Drop for a big near fall. Green Ant battled back and locked on the Cloverleaf but ZERO got to the ropes for a break. The momentum turned several times building to the finish which saw Green Ant catch ZERO with a Cobra Clutch Suplex (ch) to score the pin.
2) Jigsaw vs. Mr. Touchdown was a Draw: The popular Jigsaw out of the Bronx, NY, took on “Mr. Touchdown” Mark Angelosetti, one-third of The Throwbacks along with Dasher Hatfield & Sugar Dunkerton. It was a great battle from the opening bell with both men coming close to victory several times. Jigsaw scored with the jumping enzuigiri and Jig N’ Tonic for big near falls during the course of the battle. Touchdown turned things around at one point when he struck Jigsaw with his football helmet. He followed up with the Dogpile with Jigsaw kicking out just before the three count. The pump splash by Touchdown led to another big near fall late in the match. Unfortunately for both men time ran out and this one was declared a draw though most felt that Mr. Touchdown achieved a moral victory by taking his more experienced opponent to the limit.
3) Vin Gerard, Brodie Lee, & Grizzly Redwood defeated Ultramantis Black, Crossbones, & Hydra: Trios action took center stage as the Order of the Neo Solar Temple (Ultramantis Black, Crossbones, & Hydra) took on The Dark Menace-led team of Vin Gerard and The Roughnecks (Brodie Lee & Grizzly Redwood), the reigning Campeonatos de Parejas. The rivalry between UMB and Gerard has been heating up and the two had an intense exchange during the course of this bout. Crossbones was the star of the match hitting such moves as the Scrapbuster and big splash. He set up UMB hitting a double knee backbreaker on Lee for a near fall. The crowd popped when the “powerful” Hydra and Redwood squared off. Unfortunately for Hydra he got the worst of that exchange and would wind up being the one to lose the match when Lee nailed him with the Big Boot to score the pin.
4) Osirian Portal defeated The Colony: A battle between two of the most popular tag teams in CHIKARA saw The Colony (Fire Ant & Soldier Ant) take on the Osirian Portal (Amasis & Ophidian). Both teams are in line for a shot at the Campeonatos de Parejas so this was an important match. They laid it all on the line here with all four men scoring near falls during the course of the match. Fire Ant was the standout performer exploding on offense several times after getting a hot tag from Soldier Ant. He caught Ophidian with the Beach Break fir a big near fall late in the match. Ophidian was involved in a big highlight as he avoided a toss out of the ring by Soldier Ant executing Skin the Snake followed by the Egyptian Destroyer for a big near fall. It would be those two involved in the finish as Ophidian executed a reverse rolling prawn hold on Soldier Ant which he converted into the Death Grip scoring a submission victory as Amasis prevented Fire Ant from making the save. The crowd gave both teams a standing ovation following the match and also enjoyed The Colony participating in a Dance Off with the Osirian Portal.
5) F.I.S.T. defeated Mike Quackenbush, Hallowicked, & Frightmare: More exciting trios action saw the tecnicos team of “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush, Hallowicked, and Young Lions Cup champion Frightmare oppose the rudos team of F.I.S.T. (Icarus, Chuck Taylor, & Johnny Gargano). Quackenbush set the pace early laying Icarus out with a Jig N’ Tonic to put F.I.S.T. on the defensive. The tag was made to Hallowicked who kept up the pace hitting both the running boot to the face and the Rydeen Bomb. Taylor managed to turn it around for F.I.S.T. hitting a jumping big boot. He also did a dive out of the ring taking out the entire tecnicos team before executing the Invisible Grenade Elbow Drop. The crowd was at a fever pitch when Gargano teamed with his partners on an Assisted Ace Crusher taking out Frightmare. That set up Icarus hitting the Blu-Ray on Frightmare for a big near fall. A short time later it was Icarus catching Frightmare with a Pedigree followed up by a second Blu-Ray to score the pin.
●An interesting and entertaining development took place post-match as Icarus issued a challenge to Frightmare for a shot at the Young Lions Cup. Frightmare accepted but then Chuck Taylor and Johnny Gargano jumped in insisting that they be given the championship opportunity. The F.I.S.T. members began arguing with each other before the Director of Fun Larry Sweeney, looking on from the Commentation Station, said that this should be settled the hard way with a battle of rock, paper, scissors! The crowd roared in laughter and approval as Icarus kicked the ropes upset over his partners getting in the way of his title challenge. Sweeney then said that since he is in a celebratory mood, being only moments away from winning the 12-Large Grand Championship, that he was going to give Icarus the shot against Frightmare on the next CHIKARA card in Hellertown, PA (Card #779) since he asked for it first. Icarus was ecstatic while both Taylor and Gargano became upset. Sweeney followed that up by telling Taylor and Gargano that they will have a future championship opportunity as well depending on who wins their match against each other in Hellertown! It was a shocking turn of events that left Icarus happy and Taylor and Gargano arguing with each other causing some unexpected tension in F.I.S.T.
6) LOW Tex-Arkana Television title: Ed Lewis© defeated Gran Akuma to retain the title: The formidable Ed “Strangler” Lewis ventured to CHIKARA to defend the LOW Tex-Arkana Television title against the determined challenge of Gran Akuma. Known as the “Mysterious, Mythological Warrior from Afar”, Akuma once held the MCW Southern Heavyweight title (Card #363-402) and was looking to add a second title to his resume in LOW. He shined early surviving a full nelson submission attempt by Lewis and struck with the Falcon Arrow and 450 Splash. He also executed the Rubik’s Cube, an electric chair driver, that had Lewis on the defensive. Lewis, however, is a great counter wrestler and he used his technical skill to secure the victory as he caught Akuma with a jack-knife arm scissors which he converted into a Double Wristlock for the submission. Akuma was disappointed over the loss but he showed great class in shaking hands with Lewis who was successful in his impressive version eleven defense of the championship.
7) PWI Invitational Cup Tournament Qualifying Match: Antonino Rocca defeated The Destroyer to advance: CHIKARA hosted the first qualifying match for the PWI Invitational Cup Tournament which takes place during WrestleCade VIII weekend and it pitted Antonino Rocca (NWC) against The “Intelligent, Sensational” Destroyer (KRU). PWI Editor Bill Apter was on hand and shook hands with both men before the match officially got underway. Rocca won the event at WrestleCade V and is the only past winner who is competing this year. It looked bad for him early as The Destroyer took out his legs and used the single leg Boston Crab to set up an application of the Figure Four Leglock. Rocca fought with every ounce of his energy to reverse the hold escaping what looked to be a sure submission. He fought back hard and scored a big near fall using a crushing body scissors transitioned into a victory roll. The tense battle went to the floor several times before Rocca caught The Destroyer in the Argentinian Backbreaker going for the submission. The Destroyer managed to escape with a rake of the eyes but a short time later he was nearly counted out after Rocca delivered a diving bodypress to the floor. The crowd rallied behind the popular Rocca as he would trap The Destroyer in the Argentinian Backbreaker for a second time getting the victory via submission. Rocca advanced and will now hope to become the only man to be a two-time winner of the PWI Invitational Cup Tournament.
8) CHIKARA 12-Large Grand Championship – Steel Cage Match: Larry Sweeney defeated Eddie Kingston to win the title: In a most shocking turn of events it was the Director of Fun “Sweet N’ Sour” Larry Sweeney defeating the “War King” Eddie Kingston in a Steel Cage Match to win the CHIKARA 12-Large Grand Championship. The crowd was stunned at the decision as most expected Kingston to wipe the mat with Sweeney inside the confines of the cage. Before the match it was Sweeney, as the acting DOF, stating that the rules would be “classic northeast style” meaning that the only way to win was to escape the cage by going over the top or through the door. Kingston had no problem with that as he prepared for the battle. During the early part of the match almost the entire CHIKARA roster, including those not on the card like Shane Storm and Los Ice Creams, gathered on the outside to watch the events unfold. Sweeney tried to escape several times but was dragged back in by Kingston. An outside distraction by Dragon Dragon of all people helped sway the battle in the favor of Sweeney who wound up busting Kingston open with a run into the cage wall. Moments later Sweeney laid Kingston out with the 68’ Comeback Special and began climbing up. Kingston was able to recover and caught him with the two trading blows on the top rope. Suddenly it was Dragon Dragon interfering again as he slammed the cage causing Kingston to fall groin first on the top rope as Sweeney scurried up and over the top to escape the cage via snake eyes and become the new champion. The crowd jeered the decision as Sweeney grabbed the title belt and jumped into the arms of Dragon Dragon.
●Even more shocking was the post-match scene as Larry Sweeney and Dragon Dragon celebrated with the title belt and a second Dragon Dragon showed up. The two eyed each other on the floor as a bloody Eddie Kingston reached out through the door and pulled Sweeney into the cage pounding away on him. The rest of the roster got involved and were able to pull Kingston off of Sweeney who quickly grabbed the title belt and retreated to the corner of the cage. He was joined by Dragon Dragon as the other Dragon Dragon stood on the outside being held back by officials and wrestlers. That led to a shocking situation as Sweeney taunted Kingston, being held back by Mike Quackenbush among others, before removing the head of his Dragon Dragon to reveal none other than Tursas! The Finnish giant returned to CHIKARA costing Kingston the championship. The “War King” exploded trying to get at both Sweeney and Tursas but they were able to get out of the cage. Kingston then grabbed the mic and delivered an emotional speech saying that if Sweeney and Tursas “have the guts” they will meet him in a tag team match on the next CHIKARA card in Hellertown, PA (Card #779). Sweeney returned and laughed it off saying that as the DOF only he can make the matches but after some careful consideration he will give Kingston that opportunity but that his tag partner for the match will be – Dragon Dragon!

Pretty cool CHIKARA card with Rocca winning over the Destroyer in your PWiT, but seeing Akuma lose was a bummer. Now seeing Larry Sweeney winning gold over Kingston is a very cool thing...

Good to see Larry Sweeney (who for awhile along with Claudio Castagnoli was one half of the Campeonatos de Parejas in Lachikaras Vegas) win the CHIKARA 12-Large Grand Championship by defeating Eddie Kingston in a steel cage!

Thanks for the comments Crimson and Vegas. That was a fun CHIKARA card and while I was happy that Larry Sweeney won the gold it was also a big surprise. Those dice can really change plans as I figured Kingston might be in for a long reign. Now it is going to be interesting to see how Sweeney does as champion. Next up is action from ROH which I hope to post sometime this week. Thanks for reading.

Crazy cage match. Although I am not big fan of interference / distraction finishes in a cage match it does allow for bigger and better things down the road.
